Root bell (Rapunzel bell, bulb bell)

Synonyms: rapunzel, bell.

Names: az. zyngyrov otu; arm. zangak; cargo, machita; German Rapunzel; Goal. rapunselwortel; Swede, rofklocka; English rampion; fr. raiponce cultivce, rampon, rave sauvage; it. raperonzolo, rapanzolo; Spanish reponche, raponchigo; port, rapuncula, rapuncio; Hung, csengetyiike; Slovenian zajka; Serb, plavka, suncae; Polish czvvonek warzywny.

Plant 30-100 cm tall, with thick, fleshy, white root 7-8 cm long and 1,5-2 cm wide. Leaves (3 cm wide) form a rosette; flowers are blue. Blooms in the second year of life; seeds light brown, glossy, oblong. Weight of 1000 seeds - 0,04 g.

The plant is cold-resistant; used wild or cultivated as a vegetable. The root bell is sown in late May - early June, as with earlier sowings, the plants stem prematurely. Before sowing, the seeds are usually mixed with earth or sand (they are very fine and difficult to sow evenly).

Sowing is done in strips with distances between rows of 25 cm, between strips of 40-50 cm. In rows, plants are thinned out by 3-4 cm. To get an earlier harvest, the bell is grown using seedlings.

For seed purposes, it is better to sow later. Then in October, the roots are dug up and placed in the sand in storage.

In the spring of the following year, they are planted to obtain seeds.

Root vegetables are eaten like radishes, with vinegar and oil.

Other bells are also eaten. For example, the roots of C. persicifolia L. and C. latifolia L. taste like parsnips. Bluebell species C. edulis Fors. and C. rapunculoid.es L. are also edible. Clement-Moreau (French Acclimatization Society) points out that the roots of C. parumidalis L. can be eaten. The tender leaves of Specularia Speculum D. C., an annual bell plant, are used as a salad.

In the species Adenophora communis Fischer (Southern Europe) and A. verticillata Fischer (Japan), the roots are used as food.

Young stems of Michauxia laevigata Vent. are marinated in Nakhichevan.

Ethnoscience:

  • To treat colds and coughs: infusion of the root of the root bell (1 tablespoon of root per 1 cup of boiling water) is taken 1/4 cup 3 times a day.
  • For the treatment of diseases of the liver and biliary tract: Pour 1 tablespoon of the crushed root of the root bell with 1 cup of boiling water and leave for 2 hours. Take 1/4 cup 3 times a day.
  • To improve bowel function and appetite: Pour 1 tablespoon of the crushed root of the root bell with 1 cup of boiling water and leave for 1 hour. Take 1/4 cup 3 times a day before meals.
  • To improve skin condition: an infusion of the root of the bell root (1 tablespoon of the root per 1 cup of boiling water) is used to wash the skin.

Cosmetology:

  • Mask for the face: mix 2 tablespoons of crushed bellflower root and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply the mixture on your face and leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. This mask helps to moisturize and nourish the skin, improve its color and texture.
  • Skin lotion: Steep 2 green tea bags in 1 cup boiling water and leave to infuse until completely cool. Add 2 tablespoons of crushed bellflower root and mix thoroughly. Keep the lotion in the refrigerator for several hours, then apply to the face with a cotton swab. This lotion helps shrink pores, reduce breakouts and improve complexion.
  • Body Scrub: Mix 1 cup of sea salt and 2 tablespoons of crushed bluebell. Add enough mineral water to get the consistency of a paste. Massage the scrub into the skin of the body, then rinse with warm water. This scrub helps to cleanse the skin, remove dead cells and improve blood circulation in the tissues.

  • The root bell can be grown from seeds that are sown in open ground to a depth of 1-2 cm in spring or autumn. The plant prefers sunny positions and light, well-drained soils.
  • During cultivation, the plants should be regularly watered and loosen the soil. In addition, it is necessary to remove weeds and protect plants from pests.
  • The root bell is ready for harvesting in late August - early September.

Workpiece:

  • Bluebell root has many useful properties and can be used in cooking for salads, side dishes and other dishes.
  • After harvesting the plants, the roots should be thoroughly cleaned of dirt and washed in cool water. Then they can be cut into pieces or chopped in a blender.

Storage:

  • The roots of the root bell should be stored in the refrigerator in bags with holes for air access.
  • When properly stored, the root bell can last up to 1 month.
