Spathiphyllum. Legends, myths, history

Spathiphyllum

There are many legends about spathiphyllum. It is believed that if you give this plant to someone, then grace will enter the house of the gifted. He will help a young girl find her soul mate, a married woman - harmony in the family, a childless - a long-awaited offspring. With constant quarrels in the house, in the absence of understanding and respect, the "female flower" dies.

Among the people, some varieties of spathiphyllum are called the flag bearer, and almost all these plants are affectionately called "flower - female happiness." There are several explanations for this. One of them, the most touching and romantic, is the comparison of the "veil" (leaf enveloping the cob-inflorescence) with a female palm, and the other is based on the shape of the cob close to phallic.

One way or another, it is believed that spathiphyllum is best given to a young woman, whom he will certainly bring good luck - it will help an unmarried woman find her love, and one who does not yet have children, become pregnant.

It is believed that a spathiphyllum received as a gift brings grace in the personal sphere and long-awaited female happiness.

Happiness comes to the house during the flowering period, so this flower must be looked after with care and love.

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

Spathiphyllum, or female happiness, is a popular houseplant due to its beautiful green leaves and white flowers.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing spathiphyllum:

Cultivation:

  • Lighting: Spathiphyllum prefers bright but diffused light. It should not be placed in direct sun as this may damage the leaves.
  • Temperature: Spathiphyllum prefers warm and humid climates. The optimum temperature for its cultivation is between 20 and 25 °C.
  • Watering: Spathiphyllum needs regular watering, but does not tolerate flooding. Water it when the topsoil begins to dry out. It is important to prevent the soil from drying out.
  • Fertilizers: Spathiphyllum needs regular feeding. Use an all-purpose houseplant fertilizer once every two weeks during active growth.

Workpiece:

  • Usually spathiphyllum reproduces by dividing the rhizome. Divide the plant into several parts and transplant them into pots with nutrient soil.
  • Spathiphyllum can also be propagated by cuttings. Choose a healthy stem and cut it into several pieces, each about 10 cm long. Plant them in pots with nutritious soil and keep them in a warm and humid place.

Storage:

  • Spathiphyllum is best stored indoors with bright but diffused light.
  • The plant does not tolerate drafts and strong condensation on the leaves, so keep an eye on the humidity of the air and do not place it near an air conditioner or an open window.
  • Remove wilted flowers and leaves regularly to maintain healthy plant growth and appearance.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Quantum dot in gold 26.09.2009

Quantum dots are capable of fluorescence, that is, they glow when exposed to visible light. Gold nanoparticles glow when exposed to infrared light. Both types of these particles are used by biologists for diagnostics, and gold particles are also used for treatment, since when irradiated with microwaves, they heat the cell in which they find themselves.

Scientists from the University of Washington, led by Gao Xiaohu, came up with a technique that allows you to combine these particles into one. In accordance with it, a quantum dot is covered with a polymer layer, by changing the structure of which it is possible to set the shell thickness with an accuracy of one nanometer. Gold ions were deposited onto the polymer and a gold shell 2–3 nm thick was obtained.

From above everything was covered with polyhistidines. In the resulting particle with a diameter of 15–20 nm, the quantum dot regularly shone, and its light passed through a thin golden shell.

Since gold is not poisonous and is approved for use, many proteins can be attached to it, and the new system will be a good addition to existing nanomedicine tools.
