Synonyms: Clinopodium hortense O. Ktze.

Names: Ukrainian chebrchik; iem. Bohnenkraut, Pfefferkraut, Kolle, losefle; Goal. boonenkruid; dates sar; Swede, sommer kyndel; English summer or annual savory;

An annual plant with a thin straight almost cylindrical root. Stems 15-30 (45) cm long, branched from the base, finely and appressedly pilose.

Leaves linear or lanceolate, 1,5-2,5 cm long, acute, with a few glands. Flowers 3-5 in axillary false whorls, upper sessile, lower on short pedicels, form a loose elongated inflorescence. Corolla about 6 mm long, short-haired on the outside, light purple or pinkish with purple spots in the throat. Nutlets are ovate-triangular, greenish-gray with black dots, then becoming black-brown.

The weight of 1000 seeds is 0,6-0,8 g. Seeds remain viable for 1-2 years.

Leaves in fresh and dried forms are added to all kinds of dishes, marinades and pickles. It is believed that savory stimulates the appetite. In medicine, it is used as a pain reliever. Essential oil is extracted from fresh leaves and stems.

Fragrant savory annual

Savory loves light and loose fertile soil. When sowing, the seeds are lightly covered with sand or humus. In open ground, savory is sown early in spring, in an ordinary way with row spacing of 50-60 cm. Seeding rate is 4-5 kg/ha. Shoots appear only on the 14th day after sowing.

As with other herbs from the labiiaceae family, the crop is harvested by cutting off part of the stems and leaves at the beginning of flowering.

The stems are tied in bunches and dried in the shade. Savory seeds are easily shed, so seed plants are cut as soon as the seeds in the lower boxes begin to blacken. The stems are tied and dried, and then threshed, the seeds are cleaned and sorted.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Supersonic missile X-60A 16.03.2019

The US Air Force Research Laboratory, together with Generation Orbit Launch Services, has begun work on a new supersonic rocket concept called the X-60A, which is a completely new approach to making rockets fly at about eight times the speed of light. It is known that the preliminary analysis of the technical design of the rocket has already been successfully completed and both teams have begun the direct technical implementation of their new rocket, which is planned for the first test launch around 2020 - however, there may be many other problematic factors.

One of these problematic factors is the excessively high cost of manufacturing and developing certain aspects of such a supersonic rocket based on liquid fuel - now representatives of the US Air Force have announced that they have filed an application for the use of a space port in Jacksonville, Florida in order to at least partly minimize budget gaps. The X-60A rocket itself, formerly known as GOLauncher-1, is being developed with the active participation of aviation and space systems specialists from Generation Orbit Launch Service as part of a special program called Small Business.

It is thanks to such a campaign that it becomes possible to experiment with various types of technical implementation of the rocket, which also becomes really interesting in terms of exceeding the speed of light - the rocket should, according to the developers, be able to move at a speed of Mach 8, which approximately corresponds to an indicator of 9,800 km / h , and this is an excellent example of overcoming the speed of light.
