Black pine (Austrian black pine), Pinus nigra. Botanical description of the plant, areas of growth and ecology, economic importance, applications

Pine black (Austrian black pine)

A coniferous tree, a species of the genus Pine (Pinus) of the Pine family (Pinaceae).

A tree 20-55 m high, with a pyramidal crown in young trees and an umbrella-shaped crown in old trees. The branches at the end are more or less ascending. Annual shoots are gray-brown. The bark is black-gray, deeply furrowed. The age of the trees reaches 600-800 years.

Needles 8-14 cm long, 1,6-1,8 mm wide, dark green, slightly shiny or matte, two pieces in a bundle, hard, pointed, straight or slightly bent, often twisted.

Cones are ovoid or somewhat elongated, 5-7,5 cm long, 2-3,5 cm wide, yellow-brown, brilliant gray-brown, on short petioles, arranged horizontally on the branches, open in the third year. Seeds oblong-ovate, 4-6 mm long, gray, finely spotted.

The range, for the most part, is located in the northern Mediterranean, there are several areas in Morocco and Algeria.

It grows in the mountains, mainly on calcareous soils, less often on the products of the destruction of igneous rocks. It rises in the mountains to a height of 1400-1500 meters.

Grows best in open, sunny positions, but can tolerate side shade. The plant is wind and drought tolerant.

The view is very decorative. Due to the dark color of the needles, it allows you to create spectacular color contrasts in park compositions.

Hardiness zones: 5b to warmer.

It is hardy in the central forest-steppe zone. It tolerates drought, city conditions.

It is undemanding to the soil. Less photophilous than Scotch pine. Tolerates lateral shading. Up to 25 years, it grows slowly, much slower than Scots pine, later it overtakes it in growth.

Ethnoscience:

  • Colds: An infusion of pine needles is often used to relieve cold symptoms such as cough and nasal congestion. To prepare the infusion, it is recommended to infuse 2-3 tablespoons of pine needles in 500 ml of boiling water for 15-20 minutes, then strain.
  • Rheumatism: black pine is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which can help treat rheumatism. To do this, you can prepare an ointment by mixing 50 grams of pine needles with 200 grams of a fatty base (for example, lard), heat in a water bath until the needles are completely dissolved, strain and cool.
  • Pain in muscles and joints: An infusion of pine needles can also help relieve muscle and joint pain. To prepare the infusion, it is recommended to infuse 2-3 tablespoons of pine needles in 500 ml of boiling water for 15-20 minutes, then strain.

Cosmetology:

  • Mask for the face: mix 1 tablespoon of pine needles with 1 egg and 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply to face and leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
  • Shampoo: mix 1 cup of fresh pine needles with 1 liter of boiling water and leave for 2 hours. Then strain the infusion and add 1 cup of oatmeal gruel and 1 tablespoon of honey. Use this shampoo to strengthen your hair and reduce hair fall.
  • Body massage oil: Mix 1 tablespoon black pine essential oil with 1 tablespoon jojoba oil and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Use as a body massage to improve circulation and reduce skin inflammation.

Attention! Before use, consult with a specialist!

Black pine (Austrian black pine), Pinus nigra. Tips for growing, harvesting and storing

cultivated and wild plants. Legends, myths, symbolism, description, cultivation, methods of application

The black pine (Pinus nigra) is a large tree that is used in landscaping as well as timber production.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing:

Cultivation:

  • Black pine prefers sunny to semi-shady locations, well-drained soils, and somewhat moist environments.
  • This tree can grow in a variety of soil types, but prefers light, sandy and clay soils that are poor in organic matter.
  • Black pine can be grown from seeds or cuttings. Growing from seeds occurs through sowing in the ground or in boxes with a substrate in early spring.
  • Select large seeds and place them in a horizontal position at a depth of about 2-3 cm.
  • Place seedlings at least 3 meters apart to provide enough room for growth.
  • Black pine is a plant of moderate growth, so the first years require additional care and top dressing, especially during periods of drought.
  • Water the seedlings regularly, especially during dry periods.
  • Trim the tree once a year to maintain its shape and maintain healthy growth. Circumcision is best done in spring or autumn.
  • When the black pine grows large enough, remove all branches that are below eye level. This will improve its shape and allow you to see better around.
  • Feed your seedlings with nitrophosphate or other fertilizer in the spring and fall to ensure they get enough nutrients.
  • Protect your pine from pests and diseases.

Workpiece:

  • Collection. Pine cones should be harvested when they are fully ripe. Cones can be separated from the tree by hand or with special tools.
  • Drying. Harvested buds should be dried in the sun or in a ventilated area for several days.

Storage:

  • Storage of fresh cones. Fresh buds should be stored in a cool and dry place to avoid rotting.
  • Seed storage. Black pine seeds should be stored in a cool and dry place. They can remain viable for up to several years.
  • Wood storage. Black pine wood is stored in a dry and insect-protected place. It can be stored both outdoors and indoors.

Black pine is a valuable tree that can be used for both landscape design and timber production.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Instant dimming for the welder 03.12.2008

The welding helmet of the American company "3M" does not have to be raised and lowered during operation. Its glass, when the arc is turned on, automatically darkens in 0,1 milliseconds and brightens as soon as the arc goes out.

This is how the polarizing filter on liquid crystals works, which works when it is energized by the microprocessor that controls the mask. Moreover, the system reacts only to pulsating light (and the arc always pulsates during welding), so that it will not be confused by a randomly flashed sunbeam or a beam of a strong lantern. Welding ends - the light filter is clarified, and the welder, without lifting the shield, can again perform preparatory operations.

You can adjust the filter for enlightenment with some delay so that the welder is not blinded by the hot weld.
