Kotovnik Isfahansky

Lamiaceae family - Lamiaceae.

An annual plant 5-15 cm high.

Stem erect or ascending, with more or less dense pubescence of long, thin, curly white hairs, simple or branched at the base; the branches all bear inflorescences and are often slightly inferior in length to the stem; stem leaves are concentrated on the lower part of the stem, ovate or heart-shaped, with a blunt or even rounded apex, densely grayish-woolly pubescent below, with the same but more sparse pubescence to almost bare.

Flowers in few-flowered semi-sessile semi-whorls, of which the upper ones are collected in an apical dense head-shaped, almost spherical, less often cylindrical inflorescence. The fruit is a nut.

Distributed in Central Asia.

The aerial part of the plant contains only traces of an essential oil, the chemical composition of which has not been studied. Leaves, stem in a fresh state have a pleasant slightly spicy smell and slightly bitter taste.

When the plant dries, the taste does not change, but the smell becomes weaker. With prolonged storage of raw materials, the smell disappears.

Leaves and tops of flowering stems are tested and approved as a spice in fish processing.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

The choice of friends determines the DNA 05.05.2020

The expression "friends are the family we choose" seems banal only at first glance. Scientists at California and Yale have found that there is more scientific truth to this claim than we might have imagined.

An analysis of the genomes of almost 2000 people showed that we share as much DNA similarity with our friends as with our second or fourth cousins - that is, approximately 1% of similar genes.

This discovery only reinforces the earlier assumption that much of our social behavior (including collective life and altruism) lies in the distribution of a common DNA. Simply put, we are programmed to look for those who can continue to reproduce and pass on genes similar to ours to the next generation.

The study also showed that friends are most similar in the genes that are used for the olfactory process. One possible explanation for this fact is that friends are attracted to the same environment. For example, people who enjoy the smell of coffee are likely to spend a lot of time in cafes where they can meet and make friends with like-minded people.

Some traits controlled by genes can only function if they are shared by friends.

Least of all, friends have the same genes that control the immune system. From an evolutionary standpoint, this makes sense, since having different disease-fighting mechanisms reduces the chances of contracting a large number of diseases.

Genes shared with friends evolve faster than others, suggesting that our social relationships are the driving force behind human evolution.
