Area: Cosmopolitan species, distributed in Europe, Asia, North America, Australia and New Zealand.

Chemical composition: The composition of the trash bug includes various biologically active substances, including glycosides, flavonoids, alkaloids, carotenoids and essential oils.

Economic value: In folk medicine, junk bug is used to treat coughs, bronchitis, asthma, sore throats, hemorrhoids, arthritis and other diseases. Also used as an anthelmintic agent.

Legends, myths, symbolism: The bright yellow flowers of the plant can be associated with sunshine and joy.

Bedbug garbage

The stink bug is similar in appearance to the shepherd's purse and grows almost everywhere next to it, however, the stink bug fruits are smaller and have a rounded oval shape.

Young basal leaves have a pleasant taste and a strong peculiar smell. Salads, seasonings and side dishes for flour and fish dishes, soups, gravies are prepared from greens. In the Caucasus, in Turkey, Italy and Spain, the bedbug is even cultivated as an unpretentious vegetable plant.

The seeds contain 50-60% fatty oil used in perfumery, medicine and food. Young greens have 4,5-6 mg% of vitamins C, B, P, lepidin glycoside. Seeds and decoction of leaves are used in folk medicine as an anti-inflammatory and anti-febrile agent.

Bedbug is one of the oldest cultivated plants, the seeds of which were found in Egyptian tombs.

Ethnoscience:

  • To improve digestion: Eat fresh junk bugs before meals to improve digestion and reduce stomach discomfort.
  • For the treatment of cough: cook a decoction of the dried leaves of the bedbug garbage. To do this, take two tablespoons of dried leaves and pour a glass of boiling water over them. Steep for 15-20 minutes, then strain and drink several times a day to improve coughing.
  • For the treatment of bronchitis: Mix fresh bug leaf puree with honey and hot water. Steep for 10-15 minutes, then strain and drink a warm drink several times a day to improve bronchitis.
  • To reduce the pain of arthritis and rheumatism: boil a decoction of the dried leaves of the junk bug and use it to relieve the pain of arthritis and rheumatism. To do this, take two tablespoons of dried leaves and pour a glass of boiling water over them. Infuse for 15-20 minutes, then strain and drink several times a day.
  • To improve skin condition: Chop up fresh stink bug leaves and apply to the skin. This will help hydrate and refresh the skin, as well as reduce inflammation and irritation.

Cosmetology:

  • To moisturize the skin: Mix a puree of fresh stink bug leaves with a little honey and apply to the skin. Massage the skin with light circular motions for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water. This will help hydrate and refresh the skin.
  • To reduce the appearance of wrinkles: mix puree of fresh stink bug leaves with natural yogurt and apply on face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. This mask will help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and make the skin firmer.
  • To fight acne: Mix a puree of fresh stink bug leaves with a little honey and apply to the skin. Leave on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. This mask will help fight acne and reduce inflammation.
  • To improve skin texture: Mix fresh bug leaf puree with jojoba oil and apply on face. Leave on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with warm water. This mask will help improve skin texture and make it smoother.
  • To reduce swelling: cut fresh leaves of the trash bug and put on closed eyes for 10-15 minutes. This will help reduce puffiness and eliminate eye fatigue.

Junk bug (lat. Lepidium ruderale) is an annual plant that belongs to the Cruciferous family and is distributed throughout Europe and Asia.

Tips for growing, harvesting and storing garbage bugs:

Cultivation:

  • Junk bug prefers sunny places and well-drained soils.
  • Reproduction of the trash bug occurs through seeds.
  • The plant tolerates drought and some other adverse conditions well.

Workpiece:

  • The trash bug is used as a food plant, but not as widely as some other species.
  • The leaves and stalks of the stink bug can be used in cooking, including salad dressings and dressings.
  • The collection of leaves and stems is carried out during the period of active growth of the plant.

Storage:

  • Bedbug leaves and stems are best used fresh, but they can also be frozen or dried.
  • For freezing, tightly sealed bags should be used to avoid spoilage of the product.
  • To dry the leaves and stems, you can use special dryers or simply hang the plant in the shade in the air until completely dry.
