Tinder real

True tinder fungus is a widespread tinder fungus, a parasite.

Fruiting bodies are perennial, sessile, rounded in youth, then characteristic hoof-shaped. The fruit body is attached to the tree trunk only by its upper central part. The mushroom stem is missing.

The hat is large, in old mushrooms up to 40 cm wide and up to 20 cm high. The skin is matte, uneven, wavy, with concentric ridges, darker in the depressions. Small cracks may appear on the surface. The color of the cap varies from light gray to dark gray in old mushrooms, occasionally there are light beige tones.

The pulp is dense, soft, reminiscent of a cork, occasionally woody. Velvety suede on the cut. The color is brown, rich reddish-brown, less often nutty.

The hymenophore is tubular with rather large rounded pores, light in color. Darkens when pressed.

Spore powder is light, whitish in color.

Spores 14-24 x 5-8 µm oblong, colorless, smooth.

There is no resemblance to other species. The characteristic features of this species are the color of the cap and the fastening of the fruiting body. Unlike the false tinder fungus, the real tinder fungus is much easier to separate from the tree. This is especially noticeable if you apply pressure from the bottom up.

This tinder fungus is a saprophyte, causes white rot, woody tissue becomes brittle and brittle. It is very widely distributed, in Russia and Europe it is found everywhere on deciduous trees (birch, aspen, alder, oak, beech and others). It most often appears on dead wood, dead trees and stumps, but can also affect weakened living trees. Infection of living trees occurs through cracks and damage to the bark, broken branches.

Antitumor substances were found in the composition of the fungus.

The real tinder fungus causes damage to forestry and park management when living trees are affected.

In ancient times, it was widely used by people as a raw material for tinder. Found in the equipment of the mummy Ötzi.

The internal tissue of the fruiting body is used in folk medicine as an external hemostatic agent, hence the popular name of this fungus - the blood sponge.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Depression reduces the effectiveness of chemotherapy 23.12.2016

The patient's depressive state significantly reduces the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatment - the mechanism of this phenomenon was described by researchers from the Chinese University of Zhengzhou.

Patients with depression had lower blood levels of a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which worsened their response to the drug and contributed to more frequent side effects from treatment.

The researchers worked with 186 patients who had recently been diagnosed with cancer and were receiving chemotherapy. The day before the start of treatment, scientists determined their emotional state and severity of depression. Other patient information was also collected to look for possible patterns.

Predictably, the highest levels of depression are diagnosed in people whose cancer has spread to multiple organs. Such patients responded worse to chemotherapy and more often showed various side effects from the treatment. The content of the BDNF protein in the blood of patients directly correlated with the number of cells that died from chemotherapy.

The authors of the work note that doctors should pay more attention to the emotional state of the patient. However, more research is needed to show exactly how antidepressants affect the increase in the level of the BDNF protein in the blood, and hence the effectiveness of treatment. Based on these data, it will be possible to develop new treatment protocols for cancer patients, taking into account their mental state.
