Heatstroke - a pathological condition of the body, due to the general overheating of the body. Sunstroke is a type of heatstroke that occurs when a child's head is exposed to direct sunlight.

There are predisposing factors for heat stroke: clothing that is too warm, not drinking enough, and an overweight child. Heatstroke can also occur indoors if it is hot and stuffy.

Walking in the sun with your head uncovered can lead to sunstroke. Initially, the child may experience agitation, redness of the face, headache, nausea, and vomiting. As the condition worsens, the body temperature rises, and the skin becomes dry and hot, sweating stops, the heartbeat quickens, stupor occurs, and periodic loss of consciousness is possible. In severe situations, there may be violations of the respiratory system (frequent and shallow breathing), the nervous system (convulsions, hallucinations, delirium), etc.

Symptoms of overheating

Lethargy.

Nausea.

Dizziness.

Heavy sweating.

Thirst.

Body temperature may rise.

When to see a doctor

1. If the body temperature is high (39-41°C) and the child does not sweat. It is possible that he has a heat stroke, which can have very serious consequences, so you need to call an ambulance.

2. If the child's temperature is above 38,5°C, consult a doctor.

3. If the symptoms of overheating do not disappear after 1-2 hours and even increase, consult a doctor.

First aid for overheating

1. Remove the child from direct sunlight to a cool room and lay him down.

2. Loosen the child's clothes.

3. If the child is not vomiting, give him water or juice every 10-15 minutes.

4. Apply a wet, cool cloth to the baby's skin and turn on a fan or fan the baby with a towel.

Heatstroke symptoms

No sweat.

Hot reddened skin.

Headache or dizziness.

Confusion of consciousness.

Nausea, vomiting.

Convulsions.

Irregular or weak and frequent pulse.

Loss of consciousness.

High body temperature (39-41°C).

First aid for heatstroke

1. Check for signs of shock in the child. If the child is dizzy, if he loses consciousness, and his skin becomes pale, cold and damp, if his breathing is shallow and rapid, and the pulse is weak and frequent.

ATTENTION!

1. In case of heat stroke, do not give the child medicines or tonics (for example, strong tea and coffee).

2. Remove baby from direct sunlight. Take or carry the child to a shade or cool room. Lay him on his back, slightly raising his legs. Unzip or take off his clothes.

3. If you suspect your child has heatstroke, call XNUMX and start reducing the temperature. This can be done in any of the following ways:

  • put the child in a bath with cool, but not cold, water that reaches him to the navel, and rub his body with a sponge or towel;
  • put the child under a cool shower or pour water over him from a garden hose;
  • put the baby in a cool room, lay it next to a fan or air conditioner, and wrap it in wet sheets or towels.

4. When the body temperature drops to 39°C, dry the child, lay down and cover with a dry sheet.

5. On the forehead, as well as subclavian, axillary, elbow, inguinal, popliteal areas (where large vessels pass), apply cool lotions.

6. Let's drink plenty of water, while the water can be slightly salted.

7. Fan your child with a towel or place him near a fan or air conditioner. If body temperature rises again, repeat one of the cooling treatments.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Remains of ancient giants found 16.07.2017

Chinese archaeologists have discovered in the province of Shandong (in the east of the country) the remains of extremely tall people for their time, whose height reached 1,9 meters.

"We came to this conclusion after studying the bones. In life, they were undoubtedly even higher," says Fang Hui of Shandong University. "I think this physique is due to the presence of abundant food sources that these people had access to."

The people whose remains were discovered by archaeologists lived on the territory of modern China about five thousand years ago. The discovery was made by scientists during excavations that have been ongoing since 2016 near the city of Jinan (the administrative center of Shandong). Experts believe that the excavated remains belong to representatives of the Longshan Neolithic culture, who in ancient times inhabited the Yellow River basin.
