Snake bites. Medical care for a child

Fundamentals of First Aid (OPMP)

Almost all venomous snake bites require immediate medical attention and the introduction of antivenom, which is available in the emergency departments of local hospitals.

Symptoms

Burning, swelling, pain.

Skin blanching.

Nausea and vomiting - when the poison enters the bloodstream.

Shock (rapid shallow breathing, weak rapid pulse).

When to see a doctor

If a child is bitten by a venomous snake, call emergency services immediately or take the child to the hospital. There is no time to waste. Try to find out which snake bit the child (if the snake is dead, take it with you), call the hospital on the way and ask that the antidote be prepared for your arrival.

First aid

ATTENTION!

You can not give the child medicine, give him water and feed him, put a tourniquet on the wound, cut the wound, try to suck out the poison.

1. Reassure the child. Monitor your breathing and pulse. Take resuscitation measures if necessary.

2. Lower the bite site below the level of the heart to stop the penetration of the poison into the circulatory system.

3. Do not let the child move so that the poison does not spread throughout his body.

4. Wash the wound, but do not apply ice or a cold compress.

5. If the bite is on an arm or leg, put a splint made of a stick on the limb and tie it with a jacket or backpack straps - whatever, as long as the limb remains motionless.

6. If the snake is dead, take it to a hospital or emergency room.
