Croup - This is a blockage of the lumen of the larynx, which can lead to suffocation. True croup is a complication of diphtheria. False croup - acute stenosing larnigotracheitis, which occurs against the background of a severe course of acute respiratory infections. The disease is more often observed in children with an allergic predisposition aged 6 months to 5 years. The development of croup is based on inflammatory swelling of the mucous membrane, as well as reflex spasm of the larynx.

Symptoms of the disease

Rough, dry, "barking" cough, which often begins at night.

Difficulty breathing, especially inhalation.

Hoarseness, hoarseness of voice.

The child is restless, rushing about, shortness of breath, cyanosis appears.

When to Call for Emergency Help

With any of the listed signs of croup, and delay is very dangerous.

What to do before the doctor arrives

1. Reassure the child, unfasten tight clothes on him.

2. Open windows to provide fresh air as hypoxia develops.

3. Fill the tub with hot water and let the baby breathe in the warm steam. Place hot water containers in the room where it is located. Hang wet towels on hot radiators so that the air in the room becomes humid and warm.

4. Make steam inhalations with the addition of soda, expectorant herbs, aminophylline - in order to reduce swelling of the mucous membrane, thin sputum (it is better to have an ultrasonic inhaler).

5. Give the child a warm alkaline drink - water with soda (1/2 teaspoon per glass of water), Borjomi, Essentuki.

6. If the temperature is not elevated, you can put mustard plasters on the upper part of the chest and on the calf muscles (there is an outflow of blood to the lower half of the body, swelling decreases). Do warm foot baths.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Laser communication in space 14.06.2008

German physicists transmit information between spacecraft using a laser.

Satellites now use radio signals to communicate. However, with their help, it is no longer possible to transfer the volumes of data that modern researchers need. There is a solution: switch to light waves. They have a much shorter wavelength, respectively, and more information will fit.

As German engineers from the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology found out during recent tests, when using a laser, the information density increases a hundred times and provides the transfer of its volume equivalent to 400 DVDs per hour. They quite successfully transmitted information over a distance of 5000 km from German to an American satellite.

"The laser must be small and reliable. We managed to create such a design that its size does not exceed the size of a matchbox, and the weight corresponds to a bar of chocolate. It withstood extremely difficult conditions: temperatures from -35 to 60 ° C, acceleration of 1300 g and gamma irradiation "rays," says project manager Martin Traub. "However, the laser power is several watts, and we have not yet decided how to dissipate the heat generated during operation."
