Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Twin solar system discovered 05.08.2012

Around the star Kepler-30, surveyed by the Kepler space telescope in January of this year and located 10 thousand light years from the Sun, astronomers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have discovered a system of three planets that behave exactly like the planets of the solar system - their orbits are in the same plane and they all move in the same direction, in accordance with the direction of rotation of the star itself.

This discovery validates the leading theory of planetary formation, according to which planets form inside a disk of gas and dust orbiting a newborn star. The researchers, however, add that they hope to subsequently detect deviations from this rule caused by the gravitational interaction of the planets.

All three worlds that make up this planetary system - Kepler-30b, Kepler-30c and Kepler-30d - are much larger than the Earth, and two of them are more massive than Jupiter. One of them, weighing four Earths, makes a revolution around the star in 29 days; the larger planets have a year of 60 and 143 days, respectively. Astronomers registered the rotation of a star due to a large spot that appeared on it, similar to those that appear on the Sun. From the motion of this spot, they calculated the period and direction of its rotation, which coincided with the direction of motion of the planets.

The rule of orbital consistency of the planets is not always fulfilled. "Hot Jupiters" are known, moving obliquely to the plane of rotation of the star, and sometimes even in the opposite direction (the so-called retrograde orbits). Planets were found with almost the same and even the same number of planets as the Sun, but they did not show such organization in their movement around the star.

This behavior of the planets is associated with the same dynamic gravitational interaction of large bodies that break the idyll of harmonious movement in a row. However, scientists believe that such deviations accumulate over time, and initially all the planets move strictly inside the accretion disk and, together with it, revolve around their star.

Despite the fact that this is the first planetary system similar in order to the Sun, scientists argue that there are a lot of such systems in the Galaxy. According to them, they have about ten such planetary systems in mind, and it just takes time to study them. Astronomers are confident that many more such systems will be discovered over time.
