OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH
Occupational safety instructions for woodworking machine operators engaged in processing parts on round-blade machines. Full document Occupational Safety and Health / Standard instructions for labor protection Safe Operation 1. General requirements for labor protection 1.1. General safety requirements are set out in the Instruction "General safety requirements for professions and types of work in furniture production". 1.2. Hazardous production factors: moving machines and mechanisms, moving parts of production equipment; rotating products, workpieces. Sources of factors: rotating knife head with sliding knives; poor quality cutting tool. Effect of factors: possibility of contact with the cutting tool; possibility of contact with the spindle V-belt transmission; possibility of cutting tool breakage. 1.3. Personal protective equipment: cotton suit; combined gloves; goggles. 2. Safety requirements before starting work 2.1. Check the sharpness of the knives, make sure there are no cracks or nicks. 2.2. Check the strength of the knives in the head. 2.3. Make sure that the cutter head is balanced and that the knives describe a circle of the same radius. 2.4. Monitor the presence and serviceability of the cutter head and spindle V-belt drive. 2.5. The feed rollers and curtains of the receiving device must correspond to the diameter of the parts being processed. 2.6. Check that the spindle axis and symmetry axis correspond to the profile of the front and rear feed rollers. 2.7. Make sure that the machine spindle is balanced and has no runout in the bearings. 2.8. Check the operation of the brake interlock with the starting device. 2.9. Monitor the serviceability of electrical equipment, grounding and braking devices. 2.10. Check the correct forward and reverse feed of the workpiece. 3. Safety requirements during work 3.1. Inspect the workpieces. Cracks and poor adhesion are not allowed. 3.2. Make sure that the feed rollers firmly grip the workpiece. 3.3. Feed workpieces with curvature along the entire length by bending downwards. Guide workpieces with knots and rot at the ends into the cutter head. If there are defects at both ends of the workpiece, then one end should be filed. 3.4. When turning workpieces of different lengths, guide the longer workpiece into the cutter head first and feed the workpieces end to end. 3.5. If the workpiece gets stuck, switch the feed mechanism to reverse. If the workpiece does not come out of the rollers, stop the machine and remove the workpiece by hitting the end from the rear rollers. 3.6. Do not work with gloves. 3.7. It is not allowed to process the part with a cutter head with one knife. 3.8. Inspection, cleaning, wiping, checking the quality of processing of parts, fixing fences, manual removal of waste from the machine should be carried out when it is completely stopped. 3.9. If there is a knock, vibration, change in the nature of the noise, overheating of the cutting tool, turn off the machine and inform the master. 4. Safety requirements in emergency situations 4.1. Turn off equipment. 4.2. Post a table about the malfunction of the machine or equipment and report this to the direct management. 4.3. In the event of a fire or extinguishing a flame, use a nearby fire extinguisher. 4.4. The victim or bystander must notify the appropriate work manager of each accident or poisoning. 4.5. The worker must be able to provide first aid. Such assistance is provided immediately, directly at the scene and in the following sequence: first you need to eliminate the energy source of injury (switch off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the car, a heavy object, etc.). Assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens life or health (in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, first bandage the wound and then apply a splint; in case of burns, apply a dry bandage ; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues). If spinal injury is suspected, transport the victim only in the supine position on a rigid base. 4.6. After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility. 5. Safety requirements at the end of work 5.1. Turn off equipment. Wait for it to come to a complete stop. Tidy up the workplace: remove tools, fixtures; clean the machine from dirt and dust; wipe and lubricate the rubbing parts of the machine; neatly fold the finished parts and the remaining material. 5.2. Cleaning of wood waste (sawdust, shavings, dust) from the surface of the equipment, as well as from overalls, is carried out with a brush, sweep or using vacuum cleaners. It is unacceptable to blow the machine and clothes with compressed air. 5.3. Rags used during work and when cleaning, put the rags in a special metal box with a closing lid and take it outside the workshop to a specially designated place. 5.4. Wash hands with warm water and soap. 5.5. Report all noticed shortcomings in the operation of the equipment to the shift worker or foreman.
