As you know, in two-stroke motorcycle engines, the bearing of the lower head of the connecting rod is one of the most loaded nodes. At the same time, the term and quality of the engine operation depend on its technical condition. It is almost impossible to determine wear, and even more so to carry out the necessary repairs without disassembling the crankshaft.

But when preparing a motorcycle or microcar (map) for work in difficult conditions (for example, at competitions), it is often necessary to disassemble the crankshaft. The design of the crankshafts and the effort required for disassembly complicate this operation not only at home, but also in SYUT workshops, karting sections, and motorcycle clubs. The currently used method of pressing out the pin of the lower head of the connecting rod in a vice is far from perfect and can lead to damage to this scarce part.

A simple device for disassembling the crankshaft, offered to the attention of readers, was developed in the auto design circle of the Tula Palace of Pioneers. It allows you to disassemble the crankshafts of motorcycle engines with a neck diameter of 130-135 mm, and - 29 mm, which corresponds to the K-175 engines of the Kovrov plant and all motorcycles of the Minsk Motor Plant, that is, the most common in our country.

The device consists of a body, a strap, a pressure screw and M8x50 bolts with washers. They are made from tool steel with heat treatment, zinc or cadmium.

The technology for disassembling the crankshaft with its help is simple. Having fully unscrewed the pressure screw, the assembly is put on the crankshaft, placing the housing between the cheeks so that the connecting rod fits in the cutout of the housing. Through the threaded hole in the bar for the pressure screw, this hole is centered relative to the hole in the pin of the lower head of the connecting rod. Then a ball from a bearing Ø 10-12 mm is inserted here, hold it with your hand from falling out and wrap it, screw 3 until it touches the ball. After that, the assembly is fixed in a vice, and the finger is pressed out by tightening the screw with an appropriate wrench or wrench with a diameter of 12-14 mm and a length of 250-300 mm.

If everything was done correctly, without distortions, the finger is pressed out without difficulty.

As a pressure screw, a threaded pin of the front suspension of a GAZ-21 Volga car (part 20-2904068) can be used, the end of which is turned according to the drawing. We used a turning tool holder as a blank for the bar.

If desired, a conventional type puller can be made from the parts of this device using a bar with a pressure screw. To do this, it is enough to drill appropriate holes in the plank and provide it with hooks or suitable bolts. When using a puller, a ball should also be used, as this significantly reduces the effort expended when pressing out parts.

We add that in order to improve the methods of repair and refinement of motor engines, members of our circle have developed, manufactured and put into operation various simple devices in recent years, which greatly facilitate the disassembly and assembly of components, preventive maintenance and repair.

Biobank for storing living brain samples 15.11.2023

The biobank, containing live samples of brain metastases, represents a breakthrough in cancer research, providing access to valuable data and unique tools to combat this devastating disease. The results of the study have already found practical application in creating individualized approaches to treating patients.

Spanish scientists presented a unique biobank containing living samples of brain tissue from patients with metastases. This biobank, part of the National Network for the Study of Brain Metastases (RENACER), is a valuable resource for research and drug testing. The resulting data will be available for use in global scientific research.

Traditional brain cancer research and drug testing often uses mouse models. However, the search for human samples begins after significant discoveries, and testing them on humans becomes challenging. Obtaining sufficient numbers of human samples is often a long and complex process, requiring adherence to ethical and legal standards and collaboration with various institutions.

The Spanish National Center for Cancer Research (CNIO) offers a solution to this problem by providing a repository for live samples of brain metastases. During metastasis operations at one of RENACER's 18 associated hospitals, patients can voluntarily provide small sections of their brain for inclusion in this biobank.

Living cells in a biobank enable in-depth studies of drug response, creating patient “avatars” to determine optimal treatment. In addition, RENACER used RNA and exosome sequencing to analyze more than 150 brain metastases, and the resulting information was entered into a publicly accessible database.

Manuel Valiente and Eva Ortega-Paino, authors of the study, report that agreements have already been signed to use organotypic cultures from patients as “avatars.” These cultures may serve as potential indicators of drug sensitivity or resistance. Organotypic cultures reproduce certain aspects of the natural physiology and functioning of the body, which require careful processing. After the tissue sample is collected, it is delivered to the biobank within 24 hours under certain temperature conditions (4 to 8 °C). The tissue is then processed into organotypic cultures, separated, and stored for later research.
