OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH
Occupational safety instructions for a woodworker applying paints and varnishes on spraying machines in a high voltage electric field. Full Document Occupational Safety and Health / Standard instructions for labor protection Safe Operation 1. General requirements for labor protection 1.1. General safety requirements are set out in the Instruction "General safety requirements for professions and types of work in furniture production". 1.2. Persons with the first qualification group for safety when working with voltages above 1000 V are allowed to work on spraying installations in a high-voltage electric field. 1.3. Characteristics of dangerous and harmful production factors 1.3.1. Increased dust and gas content in the air of the working area. The source of the factor: containers from finishing materials and their components. Effect of the factor: the possibility of poisoning with toxic substances that are part of paints and varnishes. 1.3.2. An increased voltage value in an electrical circuit, the closure of which can occur through the human body. The source of the factor: high-voltage equipment. Action factor: the possibility of electric shock. 1.3.3. Explosion and fire hazard. The source of the factor: tools and devices made of materials that cause sparking, explosive concentration of vapors of paints and varnishes. 1.4. Personal protective equipment: cotton robe; cotton apron with bib; respirator; goggles with indirect ventilation; antistatic shoes; technical rubber gloves. 2. Safety requirements before starting work 2.1. Check the serviceability of the tool, respirators, goggles and rubber gloves. Cleaning tools for finishing and drying equipment should be made of non-sparking non-ferrous metal (aluminum brushes, scrapers, etc.). 2.2. Check the interlocking of guard doors, high voltage sources and sprayers. The interlock should ensure that high voltage is turned off and the supply of finishing materials is stopped when the doors are opened. 2.3. Check the operation of the light signaling blocking. 2.4. Turning on high voltage must be blocked with voltage supply to the traffic light. 2.5. Check the blocking of the conveyor starters. When starting and stopping the conveyor, an audible alarm should automatically turn on. 2.6. Check the serviceability of devices for suspension of products, the correct installation of sprayers, the presence of rubber mats at the control panel, the serviceability of local suction, the presence and serviceability of grounding devices, a spark-extinguishing device and a chemical fire extinguishing installation. 2.7. Check the operation of local suction shelters in the areas between the drying and spray booths. 2.8. Make sure that the distance from the corona edges of the nozzles to the objects to be varnished is not more than 250.300 mm. 2.9. Check the serviceability of control and measuring devices in the drying chamber (thermometers, thermocouples, thermostats and gas analyzers). 2.10. Before turning on the unit, check if there are people in the chamber, and only then close the blocking doors. 2.11. Check the availability of the operating instructions. Turn on the installation in the order indicated in the instructions. 3. Safety requirements during work 3.1. Follow the readings of the instruments on the control panel. The operating voltage must be within the limits established by the technological regime and not exceed 130 kV. 3.2. When hanging parts on hangers, make sure that they are properly and firmly fixed. 3.3. Keep spray bowls and hoses clean; when dirty, wipe and rinse them with solvents. Flush electrostatic sprayers at least 2 times per shift. The coating process and the state of electrostatic sprayers should be monitored through special windows with a grounded mesh screen from the inside to prevent glass contamination. 3.4. Products must be hung on hangers passing through the chambers. Switch off the high voltage immediately if there are hangers without products or with incorrectly hung products, as well as if products fall off the hook. 3.5. Do not enter the chamber through the opening intended for products. 3.6. When entering the chamber after turning off the high voltage, remove residual charges from the sprayers using a manual insulating rod (slip-on grounded discharger). The length of the rod handles at a rated voltage of 35 to 110 V must be at least 0,9 m. 3.7. When working with polyester varnishes, do not allow the initiator to come into contact with other chemicals, as well as to prevent other impurities from entering it. 3.8. Do not prepare working compositions of finishing materials at the workplace. 3.9. Take out empty containers from under finishing materials to specially designated places. 3.10. Cover the varnish spilled on the floor with sand, then collect the sand in a bucket with a non-ferrous metal scoop and take it to the designated place, wash the floor with soap and water. 3.11. When changing from nitrocellulose to polyester materials, thoroughly rinse dosing and spraying devices, hoses, etc. 3.12. In the event of any malfunctions in the operation of the unit (strong swinging of hangers with parts, crackling or sparking, etc.), immediately turn off the unit in order to avoid an accident. 4. Safety requirements in emergency situations 4.1. Turn off equipment. 4.2. Post a table about the malfunction of the machine or equipment and report this to the direct management. 4.3. In the event of a fire or extinguishing a flame, use a nearby fire extinguisher. 4.4. The victim or bystander must notify the appropriate work manager of each accident or poisoning. 4.5. The worker must be able to provide first aid. Such assistance is provided immediately, directly at the scene and in the following sequence: first you need to eliminate the energy source of injury (switch off the engine, stop the mechanism, remove the victim from under the car, a heavy object, etc.). Assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens life or health (in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, first bandage the wound and then apply a splint; in case of burns, apply a dry bandage ; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues). If spinal injury is suspected, transport the victim only in the supine position on a rigid base. 4.6. After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility. 5. Safety requirements at the end of work 5.1. Turn off the unit in the sequence specified in the technical operation manual. 5.2. When cleaning the chamber and the entire installation, observe the following requirements: turn on the ventilation; flush dosing devices, sprayers and pipelines, wearing a respirator and rubber gloves. Use non-ferrous metal tools. 5.3. Take out the solvent used during the work to a specially designated place. Draining the solvent into the sewer is not allowed. 5.4. Washing hands with solvents is not allowed. We recommend interesting articles Section Standard instructions for labor protection: ▪ Animal husbandry, pig breeding.
