Safe Operation

1. General requirements for labor protection

1.1. This instruction establishes the basic requirements for labor protection when working with hand-held woodworking tools.

1.2. Workers who have passed a medical examination, training, have mastered the practical skills of safe work performance and have received an introductory briefing on labor protection when hiring and an initial briefing at the workplace, as well as repeated and, if necessary, unscheduled and targeted briefings on labor protection.

1.3. Employees admitted to work must comply with the internal regulations established by the organization.

1.4. When performing work with hand-held woodworking tools, you should observe the regime of work and rest. Rest and smoke is allowed in specially equipped places.

1.5. Woodworking tools for everyday use must be assigned to workers for individual or team use, placed in special tool cabinets, tables located next to the equipment or inside it, if it seems convenient, safe and provided for by the design.

1.6. Workers should perform the work assigned by the work manager. It is not allowed to entrust your work to other employees and allow unauthorized persons to enter the workplace.

1.7. The employee may be exposed to dangerous and harmful production factors:

  • noise and vibration;
  • unfavorable indicators of the industrial microclimate;
  • dustiness and gas contamination;
  • piercing and cutting objects.

1.8. Overalls, footwear and other personal protective equipment are issued to employees in accordance with applicable standards and in accordance with the work performed.

1.9. An employee who works with hand-held woodworking tools must comply with fire safety rules, know fire warning signals, the location of fire extinguishing equipment and be able to use them. It is not allowed to use fire-fighting equipment for household purposes, piling up passages and access to fire-fighting equipment.

1.10. If any questions arise during the work related to its safe performance, you should contact the employee responsible for the safe performance of work at this production site.

1.11. In the event of an accident, the victim should stop work, notify the work manager and seek medical attention.

1.12. In the event of an accident with an employee, first aid should be provided to the victim and sent to a medical facility.

1.13. Workers performing work with hand-held woodworking tools should know and observe the rules of personal hygiene.

1.14. Employees who do not comply with the requirements of this instruction are liable in accordance with the current legislation of the Russian Federation.

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. Before starting work, work clothes should be put in order: fasten the cuffs of the sleeves, tuck in the fluttering parts of the clothes, put the hair under a tight-fitting headdress. It is not allowed to work in light shoes (slippers, sandals, sandals).

2.2. Place tools and equipment in the workplace in a convenient order for use.

2.3. Before starting work, check:

  • tool sharpening;
  • the condition of the wooden handles of the tool, which should be free of cracks, bumps, chips, plucks, rot, wormholes, growths;
  • the condition of the metal handles of the tool, which should be free of sharp edges, burrs;
  • the condition of the ax blade, which should be smooth, not knocked down, without burrs, gouges, dents and cracks, firmly and tightly mounted on the ax handle and fixed with a soft steel finned wedge;
  • the condition of the surface of the ax handle, which should be smooth, even, cleaned, without cracks, knots and breaks. The length of the handle should be 2,5 - 3 times the height of the ax;
  • the condition of the wooden parts of planers and jointers, which should be free of cracks, gaps and wormholes;
  • the condition of planer and jointer knives, which should be well and correctly sharpened with a sharpening angle of the cutting edge within 25 - 30 °;
  • the state of the surface of planers and jointers, which should be smooth and evenly cleaned, and the rear end of the block, which falls under the arm, is rounded;
  • clamping device for metal planers for fine planing, which should ensure that the knife is adjusted to a distance of no more than 3 mm;
  • knives of planers and jointers, which should be free of crumbled places and blockages on the cutting and working parts;
  • the width of the tooth setting of saws and hacksaws, which must be the same in both directions, and not exceed twice the thickness of the saw. Saws with broken teeth, cracks or concavities should be replaced;
  • sharpening teeth of saws and hacksaws. Sharpening of knives and teeth is carried out in circular and translational movements, holding the knife with both hands, leading it along the bar. The teeth are set by alternately bending them in different directions;
  • the state of the material of the handles of chisels and chisels, which are made of impact-resistant plastic or wood (oak, beech, hornbeam, maple, locust, ash);
  • the presence of metal caps on the wooden handles of chisels and chisels on the side of the working part and a ring on the side of the other end that experiences shocks to prevent splitting of the handle.

Make sure the work area is adequately lit.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. You should work only with serviceable tools and devices and use them strictly for their intended purpose.

3.2. When working with the tool is not allowed:

  • sharpen saws on a sharpener without glasses and without a lowered screen;
  • hold the saw with your hand when sharpening teeth;
  • work with a blunt hacksaw or saw;
  • put the planer on the workbench with the knife up or towards you;
  • work with a chisel, with an unreliable fastening of the part or its being on weight.

3.3. For miter sawing, use the saw box.

3.4. When manually sawing in a horizontal position, the board or beam must be fixed on a workbench or trestle with a clamp so that the sawn off part hangs over the edge of the workbench board. The part to be sawn off should be held with the left hand, positioning it at a sufficient distance from the cut. It is allowed to use a wooden block to cut the cut line.

3.5. To start sawing the line of cut should be by moving the saw "towards itself".

3.6. Sawing should be even, without strong pressure and jerks. If the saw is clamped, then a small wedge is inserted into the cut.

3.7. The log or board should be hewn in the direction from the butt to the top (along the layer). Before starting work, the log or board must be well fixed in order to prevent them from shifting or turning over under the influence of ax blows.

3.8. During breaks, it is not allowed to stick an ax into vertically located logs, boards, etc.

3.9. Only parts that are well fixed on the workbench, along the fibers, should be planed with planers. To fix the workpiece on the layout, you must use the stop.

3.10. Chips that have clogged into the slot of the planer should be selected only from above. It is not allowed to clean the planer from chips with your fingers from the side of the sole of the planer.

3.11. It is recommended to sharpen the planer knife in the following way: make circular and translational movements, holding the knife with both hands and leading it along the bar. It is not allowed to sharpen knives on a sharpener without glasses and without a lowered screen.

3.12. When working with a chisel and a chisel, sharpen the cutting edge within 25 - 30 °.

3.13. When chiseling a through hole, you should first cut the holes to an acceptable depth at the risk of the hole, and then remove and clean the chips from the middle of the hole, while placing a wooden gasket between the workpiece and the stop surface of the workbench.

3.14. When using a chisel for cutting, it should always be directed away from the hand supporting the workpiece.

3.15. It is necessary to keep the workplace clean, remove spilled (spilled) substances, objects, materials from the floor in a timely manner.

It is not allowed to clutter up the workplace, aisles and driveways.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. You should stop work, turn off the equipment in use and report the incident to the work manager if at least one of the following situations occurs:

  • in the formation of crumbled places and blockages on the cutting and working parts of the tool;
  • in case of malfunctioning devices;
  • in case of breakage or cracks in the body or handle of the tool;
  • in the absence of lighting.

4.2. In the event of an accident, you should:

  • take measures to release the victim from the action of the traumatic factor;
  • provide the victim with first aid, depending on the type of injury;
  • report the incident to the management of the organization;
  • seek medical attention at a medical center.

4.3. In case of electric shock, you should:

  • turn off electrical equipment;
  • free the victim from live parts;
  • provide assistance to the victim;
  • report the incident to the management of the organization.

4.4. In the event of a fire:

  • stop working;
  • turn off electrical installations, equipment, ventilation;
  • call the fire brigade and inform the management of the organization;
  • start extinguishing the fire with the available fire extinguishing equipment.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. Tidy up the workplace, remove materials and working tools to specially designated places for their storage. Turn off local lighting and ventilation.

5.2. Remove overalls and personal protective equipment, put them in a specially designated place.

5.3. Wash hands and face with warm soapy water and take a shower.

5.4. Inform the shifter about the malfunctions, malfunctions that have arisen during work and the measures taken to eliminate them.

5.5. Report any shortcomings in the work to the manager.
