1. General requirements for labor protection

General labor protection requirements are set out in the instructions "General requirements for labor protection for workers engaged in logging and forestry work".

2. Labor protection requirements before starting work

2.1. Tidy up work clothes (fasten all buttons, put hair under a headdress).

2.2. Check the correct installation of the riving knife, which must meet the following requirements:

  • the thickness of the riving knife must exceed the width of the cut by 0,5 mm for saws with a diameter of up to 600 mm and by 1 - 2 mm for saws with a diameter of more than 600 mm;
  • the width of the pointed part of the knife must be at least 5 mm and must not exceed 1/5 of its width;
  • the height of the knives must not be less than the height of the working part of the saw;
  • the gap between the knife along its entire length and the saw should not exceed 10 mm;
  • fastening of knives should provide the ability to quickly change and install saws of different diameters, the stability of the saws in the cutting plane and the possibility of their movement in the horizontal and vertical planes during adjustments.

2.3. Before turning on the sleeper machine, you must:

  • make sure that the alarm, guards of all moving parts, saw brake, feed mechanism, tilter, flow separation mechanism, longitudinal and transverse timber conveyors, rail track, trolley, clamping devices and lighting are in good condition;
  • check the serviceability of the saw blade, sharpening and setting teeth;
  • install the saw, adjust and securely fasten it to the shaft with a special key;
  • check the blocking of the saw blade guards;
  • check the serviceability of the electrical wiring and grounding of all metal parts of the machine and near-machine equipment;
  • make sure that there are no foreign objects interfering with the work, and a good overview of the entire process flow.

2.4. Faults found during the inspection, idle testing of the machine, near-machine equipment and mechanisms, if they cannot be eliminated on their own, should be reported to the work manager (mechanic, foreman, shop manager). It is forbidden to work in the presence of malfunctions.

3. Labor protection requirements during work

3.1. The employee must perform only the work that is entrusted to him by his immediate supervisor.

3.2. Before starting up the machine, near-machine equipment and mechanisms, it is necessary to make sure that there are no people in the danger zone of disk rotation, raw material supply, movement of timber conveyors and give a warning signal.

3.3. It is necessary to feed the trolley with the sleeper log (sleeper) after the saw blade has gained the maximum number of revolutions. When the saw speed is reduced, reduce or stop the movement of the trolley accordingly.

3.4. A trolley with a securely fixed sleeper ridge (sleeper) should be fed onto the saw blade smoothly, without jerks.

3.5. It is forbidden to fasten the sleeper ridge (sleeper) on the trolley with one hook.

3.6. It is forbidden to cut sleeper logs, the thickness of which at the point of cut is greater than the working part of the saw blade.

3.7. Regulation of the position of the sleeper log, bulking, overturning of the sleeper logs on the trolley, as well as manual acceptance of finished products from the machine is prohibited.

3.8. When returning the trolley with a ridge (sleeper), it is necessary to take it away from the plane of rotation of the saw.

3.9. Workplaces should be kept clean, avoiding the accumulation of sleepers, boards, bark, chips and other wood residues.

3.10. The sleeper, near-station equipment and mechanisms must be stopped immediately:

  • when there is an abnormal knock, noise and vibration of the saw;
  • in case of breakage of the saw blade or at least one of its teeth, machine parts, fences, malfunctions of the cable-block system for moving the machine trolley and other components;
  • when the guards of the moving parts of the machine or trolley are clogged;
  • in the event of a malfunction of the insulation of cables, electric motors, starting equipment and a power outage;
  • when any employee gives a stop signal;
  • upon detection of metal objects in the sawn sleeper ridge;
  • in the event of any other malfunctions that can directly or indirectly lead to personal injury, accident or fire.

3.11. It is forbidden:

  • work on the machine in the absence of guards, alarms, brake failure or other malfunctions;
  • clean, wipe and lubricate the machine, near-machine equipment and mechanisms until they stop completely;
  • adjust the anti-vibrator, remove guards and safety devices, put on belts, and also remove chips, bark, wood residues stuck at the saw until the saw blade stops completely;
  • stop the saw that is turned off, but still continuing to rotate, by lateral pressure on it with a piece of wood, a hand or another object;
  • be in the plane of rotation of the saw blades, as well as in the danger zone of the sleeper machine at a distance of less than 2 m from the saw blades or the ways of moving the trolley;
  • Troubleshooting the machine;
  • start the machine when people are in the sawdust gallery, go down into it to clean sawdust or repair;
  • open electric power panels for inspection and troubleshooting;
  • leave the workplace with non-disconnected or still rotating parts of the equipment;
  • transfer control of the machine and allow unauthorized persons to enter the workplace;
  • cross over moving timber conveyors, stand in the way of the trolley;
  • operate the machine in a painful condition;
  • work on the machine in the absence of limit stops with shock-absorbing devices at both ends of the ways of moving the cart.

4. Labor protection requirements in emergency situations

4.1. If motors overheat, stop them and allow them to cool down. Do not cool engines with water or snow.

4.2. If a fire is detected in the electrical wiring, it is necessary to immediately stop the engine and turn off the breaker.

4.3. If you receive a stop signal from any person, if there is an unusual noise or knocking in the machine, or if guards, parts or power are cut off, you must immediately turn off the equipment and do not start work until you are completely sure of safety.

4.4. In the event of a fire, ignition, it is necessary to immediately inform the fire brigade, start extinguishing the fire with the available fire extinguishing equipment and take measures to call the immediate supervisor to the fire site.

4.5. The victim or eyewitness must notify the foreman or the appropriate work manager of each accident.

4.6. Each worker must be able to provide first aid. Assistance must be provided immediately at the scene of the incident. The first step is to eliminate the source of injury (turn off the engine, stop the mechanism, release the victim, etc.).

The provision of assistance should begin with the most significant that threatens the health or life of a person: in case of severe bleeding, apply a tourniquet, and then bandage the wound; if a closed fracture is suspected, apply a splint; with open fractures, you should first bandage the wound, and then apply a splint; for burns, apply a dry bandage; in case of frostbite, gently rub the affected area using soft or fluffy tissues.

If spinal injuries are suspected, the victim can only be transported in the supine position on a rigid base.

After providing first aid, the victim should be sent to the nearest medical facility.

5. Labor protection requirements at the end of work

5.1. Upon completion of work, you must:

  • stop the machine, near-machine equipment and mechanisms, disconnect them from the power network;
  • clean the machine from sawdust, bark and other debris accumulated during operation;
  • carry out a preventive examination;
  • put away clothing, tools and equipment in the designated places.

5.2. Any deficiencies in the field of labor protection must be reported to the foreman or the relevant work manager.

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
