Safe Operation

1. General safety requirements

1.1. Persons who have undergone appropriate training, passed examinations on the technical minimum and safety regulations and received certificates are allowed to drive and repair motor vehicles running on gas fuel.

1.2. Machines running on gas must be inspected daily to check for tightness of gas equipment and its serviceability.

1.3. Detected malfunctions of gas equipment (primarily its leakage) must be eliminated by qualified fitters for the repair and adjustment of gas equipment.

1.4. It is forbidden to operate and enter the garage of vehicles with faulty gas equipment and broken tightness. These faults must be corrected immediately.

1.5. In cases where the elimination of a gas leak from the cylinder fittings requires repair, it is necessary to vent the gas from the cylinder into the low pressure gas network or into the atmosphere in a safe place away from people and sources of fire.

1.6. The release of gas must be carried out with the engine off and the mass disconnected.

1.7. Cars with faulty gas equipment should be stored in open areas without gas in cylinders.

1.8. Cylinders for compressed gas installed on vehicles must be painted red, have a table indicating the parameters due to the requirements of Promatomnadzor, and have the inscription "Propane-butane" (or other gas) and "Flammable".

The deadline for the next examination of cylinders is established by the Promatomnadzor of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus.

1.9. It is forbidden to store cylinders in ordinary warehouses and industrial premises.

1.10. Rearrangement and replacement of cylinders that are not removed for filling, without the permission of the person responsible for the operation of gas-cylinder vehicles, is prohibited.

1.11. During the operation of the car, it is necessary to ensure that the cylinders are securely mounted on the brackets. Loose fastening of the cylinder can lead to its rotation or displacement along the axis and rupture of the gas pipeline.

1.12. When parking the car for a night or long-term parking, as well as during maintenance or repair, it is necessary to close the valve on the crosspiece and the valves on the cylinders, exhaust all the gas in the power system, then turn off the ignition and ground (raise the hood in the repair area).

1.13. The engine is started only on one type of fuel (gas or gasoline):

If it is difficult to start the engine on gas, it is necessary to start it on gasoline, and after warming up the engine, switch to the gas fuel operation mode.

1.14. In winter, when cars are stored without garages and at low temperatures, preheating the engine and eliminating ice formations and plugs in gas communications must be done using hot water or steam.

1.15. When operating vehicles on gas fuel, it is prohibited:

1.15.1. start the engine at a gas pressure in cylinders of less than 0,5 MPa (5 kg/cm2);

1.15.2. use means of heating the engine with an open flame;

1.15.3. engine operation on a mixture of two types of fuel: gasoline and gas;

1.15.4. release gas indoors, as well as near the parking lot of other cars and near the location of people and sources of fire;

1.15.5. leave the main and filling valves open in the intermediate position. The valves must be either fully open or fully closed (up to the stop).

1.16. During parking, it is forbidden for drivers, loaders and other persons to rest or sleep in the cab, passenger compartment or closed body with the engine running.

1.17. The employee must comply with the internal labor regulations. It is forbidden to use, as well as be at the workplace, the territory of the organization or during working hours in a state of alcoholic, narcotic or toxic intoxication. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas.

1.18. Dangerous and harmful production factors:

  • gas leaks;
  • leaded gasoline;
  • gas-air flammable, explosive mixtures.

1.19. For non-compliance with the requirements of this instruction, the employee is liable in accordance with applicable law.

2. Maintenance and repair of gas-powered vehicles

2.1. Repair and maintenance of vehicles running on gas fuel must be carried out separately from vehicles with carburetor and diesel engines.

2.2. When repairing gas equipment (unscrewing nuts, bolts, fittings, etc.), care must be taken to prevent sparking.

2.3. Before checking (correcting) electrical equipment on a car, close all valves tightly and carefully check the engine compartment.

2.4. It is necessary to regulate the power supply and ignition system of vehicles running on gas fuel, as well as to check and repair gas equipment in rooms equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation.

2.5. Gas equipment should be checked for tightness with compressed air or nitrogen under the guidance of a person responsible for the technical condition and operation of vehicles running on gas fuel.

2.6. Operation of the engine with faulty gas filters leads to damage to the valves or valve seats of the gas reducer, which, when stopped, contributes to the leakage of gas from the reducer in the engine compartment.

2.7. Do not disassemble the felt element of the gas filter. In case of slight contamination, it should be washed in gasoline and blown with compressed air. If the filter element is heavily soiled, it must be replaced.

2.8. It is forbidden to repair gas equipment with the engine running and in the presence of gas in the reducer.

2.9. Elbows and tees must be screwed into the necks of cylinders on lead oppression or liquid glass. As a substitute, you can use red lead paint.

2.10. Newly screwed adapters, valves must have no more than four threads that are not included in the threaded sockets. Tightening torque of valve adapters 45-55 kg/m.

2.11. After replacing the adapters, valves, mechanical pressure gauge, the threaded connections must be checked for tightness under a pressure of 20 MPa (20 kg/cm2).

2.12. The moment of tightening the bolts for fastening the cylinders to the brackets with clamps must be within 1,5-2,0 kg/m.

2.13. When servicing vehicles running on gas fuel, it is necessary:

2.13.1. check the condition and fastening of gas equipment units and gas pipelines, fastening of gas cylinders to brackets;

2.13.2. check the external tightness of the electromagnetic shut-off filter valves;

2.13.3. check the actuation pressure of the safety valve of the high pressure reducer (at least once every 1 months);

2.13.4. once every two years, in the presence of an inspector from Promatomnadzor, conduct an examination of gas cylinders;

2.13.5. once a year, in preparation for winter operation, remove the carburetor-mixer, adapter-mixer, gearboxes and the filter element of the main gas filter, the filter of the high-pressure reducer, disassemble, clean (wash), adjust and, if necessary, replace unusable parts.

2.14. Before carrying out seasonal maintenance in preparation for winter operation, the gas from the cylinders must be bled (to ensure the possibility of checking the condition of the parts of the gas cylinder fittings).

3. Safety requirements when filling cylinders with gas fuel

3.1. Refueling vehicles with gas fuel is only allowed at special gas filling stations.

3.2. It is forbidden to fill gas cylinders with:

  • the period of periodic examination has expired;
  • there are no established stamps;
  • adapters, valves are faulty;
  • the hull is damaged (cracks, noticeable corrosion, noticeable changes in shape, etc.);
  • coloring and inscriptions do not meet the requirements.

3.3. When filling cylinders with compressed gas at gas filling stations, the following operations must be performed:

  • stop the engine;
  • turn off the batteries;
  • clean from dirt, unscrew and remove the plug from the filling valve;
  • close the main valve;
  • connect the filling hose to the filling valve (as directed by the gas filling station worker) so that the tip is completely screwed onto all turns until it stops;
  • open the filling valve (up to the stop) and fill the cylinder with gas to a stable pressure;
  • after waiting 3-4 minutes for the gas to "compact", you must first close the valve on the filling station, and then the filling valve on the car. The filling hose can only be disconnected after both valves are closed;
  • turn on the battery, slowly open the main valve (up to the stop), start the engine and leave the territory of the gas filling station.

3.4. For safety reasons, when filling cylinders, it is prohibited:

3.4.1. stand near the filling hose;

3.4.2. disconnect the filling hose under pressure;

3.4.3. tighten nuts or connections, knock on gas equipment under pressure.

3.5. In case of accidental depressurization of the filling valve, it must be closed quickly to prevent gas from escaping from the cylinders.

3.6. If the engine gives interruptions (pops) during start-up, it should be stopped immediately, the machine should be pulled back 15 m from the gas filling station.

3.7. In order to avoid gas leakage after 10-20 minutes of engine operation, it is necessary to check the filling valve. It must be closed all the way.

4. Fire safety requirements

4.1. Production facilities for storage, maintenance and repair of gas-balloon vehicles should not be located in underground floors and in extensions to buildings of other enterprises.

4.2. Production premises must have natural ventilation, they are not allowed to build cellars, channels, wells; they are equipped with supply and exhaust ventilation in a conventional version and emergency ventilation in an explosion-proof version. The room should be equipped with gas analyzers.

4.3. Premises for storage, maintenance and repair must be equipped with automatic fire extinguishing installations and automatic fire alarms.

4.4. LPG vehicles must be stored separately from liquid fuel vehicles.

4.5. The roof structures of the building where the gas-balloon vehicle is installed must be easily dumped.

4.6. Gates for the entry and exit of vehicles should be provided through openings only in the outer walls. Openings of gates and doors to adjacent premises must be protected by fire doors and gates.

4.7. For fire safety purposes, it is prohibited:

4.7.1. repair gas equipment with the engine running;

4.7.2. start the engine and operate in the presence of gas leaks;

4.7.3. release gas in rooms in the immediate vicinity of the parking lot of other cars or close to sources of fire and the location of people;

4.7.4. smoking and using open flames at a distance closer than 30 m from the car;

4.7.5. installation in rooms for gas-balloon machines of equipment that causes the formation of sparks (grinding machines, welding machines, etc.);

4.7.6. check the tightness of the connections of gas pipelines and equipment with an open flame. Soapy water should be used for this purpose.

4.8. If it is difficult to start the engine on gas indoors, it should be started on gasoline or, with the help of a tug, take the car to an open area and start it on gas.

4.9. In the event of a fire on a gas-cylinder vehicle, you must:

4.9.1. close the main and bottle valves;

4.9.2. increase the number of revolutions of the engine crankshaft and quickly exhaust the gas remaining in the gas pipeline system;

4.9.3. turn off the ignition.

4.10. Extinguish the fire with carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, sand or water spray. Cylinders with compressed gas should be poured abundantly with water, eliminating the possibility of increasing pressure in them.

5. Safety requirements in emergency situations

5.1. In case of accidents and accidents, immediately take measures to provide first aid to the victims and notify the foreman (foreman), and also ensure before arrival

5.2. Emergencies and accidents at work can occur for organizational, technical and other reasons, in particular due to:

  • being in the workplace in a state of intoxication;
  • admission to work of untrained, not certified, not instructed on labor safety of persons;
  • non-use of personal protective equipment;
  • malfunctions of machines and mechanisms, including safety devices and brakes;
  • malfunctions of gas cylinders and fittings;
  • unsatisfactory condition of the workplace;
  • insufficient illumination of the place of work, etc.
