Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. The driver is hindered not by a mobile phone in his hands, but by talking on it 08.06.2009

It is now illegal in many countries to use a cell phone while driving, but if the driver is equipped with a hands-free headset, the law does not object to talking. However, studies conducted at the University of Utah (USA) showed that the matter is not in the hands.

Experiments conducted both on a driving simulator and on real roads show that the hands can be free, but the brain is busy talking and distracted from the road. Talking on the phone significantly distracts attention and slows down the processing of visual information.

Busy drivers are four times more likely to have an accident than other drivers. This is about the same risk as a lightly drunk driver.

Listening to a radio program or an audiobook does not affect the frequency of driving errors (and the participants in the experiments were then tested for knowledge of the contents of the programs and books to make sure they really listened). And a conversation with a passenger sitting next to it even increases the vigilance of the driver. Why the telephone conversation is dangerous is not clear.

It is assumed that the subscriber imagines an absent interlocutor, which greatly distracts from other tasks.
