I. General Provisions

The video engineer belongs to the category of specialists and reports directly to the head of the department.
The position of a video engineer is accepted by a person who has a higher or secondary special education without presenting work experience.
Recruitment to the position of a video engineer and dismissal from it is carried out by order of the general director of the enterprise.
The video engineer must know:

methodological and normative materials on the issues of the work performed;
prospects for technical development; features of the enterprise;
principles of operation of television and video equipment;
ways and methods of installation;
rules and conditions for the performance of work;
basic requirements for technical documentation and materials;
achievements of science and technology, advanced domestic and foreign experience in the relevant field of activity;
rules for the operation of the equipment entrusted to him;
rules and norms of labor protection;
internal labor regulations.

During the absence of a video engineer (vacation, illness, etc.), his duties are performed by a duly appointed person who acquires the appropriate rights and is responsible for the quality and timeliness of the performance of his duties.

II. Official duties

Video engineer:

When editing "News":

While on duty, he carries out editing of stories under the guidance of a correspondent, editing programs in accordance with the news release plan approved by the head of the news department.
If necessary, coordinate changes in the release plan with the head of the department or producer.
Controls the timing of video reports, the quality of video and sound recordings (interviews, internoise).
Responsible for the quality and efficiency of editing, as well as the information broadcast of television during duty.
Controls the graphic design of the program according to established standards.
Gives out the program live (if necessary, recorded) with the help of the director on duty.
Provides broadcast of advertising blocks within the "News" according to the existing scheme of interaction with the advertising department.
Constantly maintains feedback with the head of the news department on the problems of the content of stories or camera work for their timely resolution.

When installing copyright, commercial programs:

Carries out editing of programs according to the editing schedule approved by the head of the department of creative programs, the editor-in-chief.
Together with the author and cameraman, he reviews the source material before editing, mounts the program under the guidance of the author (journalist, director) in accordance with the scenario plan.
It controls the timing of the program, the quality of the video picture, sound recording (interviews, internoise).
Responsible for the quality and efficiency of editing, as well as the information broadcast of television during duty.
Controls the graphic design of the program according to established standards.
Constantly maintains feedback with the head of the department of creative programs, the editor-in-chief on the problems of the content of the plots or camera work for their timely resolution.

III. Rights

The video engineer has the right to:

Get acquainted with the draft decisions of the management of the enterprise relating to its activities.
Make proposals for improving the work related to the responsibilities provided for in this instruction.
Within the limits of his competence, report to his immediate supervisor about all the shortcomings identified in the course of his activities and make proposals for their elimination.
Require the management of the enterprise to assist in the performance of their duties and rights.

IV. A responsibility

The video engineer is responsible for:

For improper performance or non-performance of their official duties provided for by this Job Description. - within the limits determined by the current labor legislation of Ukraine.
For offenses committed in the course of carrying out their activities. - within the limits determined by the current administrative, criminal and civil legislation of Ukraine.
For causing material damage - within the limits determined by the current labor and civil legislation of Ukraine.

Prions jump from animals to humans 09.02.2012

Prions are a kind of mutant proteins whose behavior is similar to mythical zombies: when a prion collides with a healthy protein similar to it, it changes its spatial structure, thus turning it into another prion. Quite often, such proteins lead to dangerous diseases and, as French scientists recently found out, they “pass” relatively easily from animals of one species to another.

In their paper published today in Science, the researchers described how they infected mice with prion diseases from other animal species. As it turned out, prions took root in an environment alien to them and even expanded the field of activity: such diseases usually occur in the brain, but in mice, prions changed proteins in other organs. "By focusing only on the brain, we may underestimate the danger of some prion diseases," says Pierluigi Gambetti. "That adds another unknown to the equation."

Scientists warn that newly discovered prion diseases in cattle and rodents could be transmitted to other species, including humans. To test this, the group of Professor Hubert Laude conducted an experiment on transgenic mice. The genomes of these mice have been altered to produce "human" versions of proteins susceptible to prion diseases. These experimental animals were injected with prions, which cause disease in cows and goats.

In about half of the animals, "wrong" versions of the proteins were subsequently found, and they were located mainly in the spleen. Mice, however, did not show any signs of the disease, but when they encounter other prion proteins, a more unpleasant outcome is probably possible.
