Attempts to understand why people use intoxicants have been made since the phenomenon arose in society. Understanding the causes of drug addiction in adolescents and how a teenager becomes addicted to drugs is very important for planning and carrying out preventive work.

The age of onset of drug use is most often between 12 and 16 years of age, but there may be both earlier and later initiation to drugs.

The main reasons leading adolescents to drug addiction are:

Curiosity: thirst to experience new sensations ("everything in life must be experienced, tried"), to test oneself in a new situation.

Curiosity is one of the great human traits. It usually manifests itself at an early age and predetermines the development of cognitive inclinations. Children try drugs primarily for educational purposes, to experience their effects on themselves. In various geographical regions of the world, there are certain age criteria for people to start using drugs. The greatest number of cases of drug use occurs in adolescence.

Imitation: the desire to be like friends, acquaintances, to correspond to one's group.

Desire to have fun ("get high"). The desire for pleasure is characteristic of all living things and is inherent in any, not only pathological, personality. The onset of abuse and the clinical presentation of the disease provide abundant evidence for the significance of the pleasure-seeking motive. These include the use of euphoric substances; deliberate increase in doses in order to maintain euphoria; preference for the intravenous route of administration, which achieves the greatest euphoric effect; the use of additional means to obtain euphoria; taking the drug not in those doses that prevent the withdrawal syndrome, but in those that give euphoria.

Environmental influence: older or significant person for a teenager (often this is an older brother, as well as a school or sports idol). A teenager wants to be involved in the "chosen ones", who have their own jargon, a special lifestyle, certain behaviors.

Relief of the mental state. A person seeks to forget, relax after the trouble, relieve stress.

Feeling of protest. For example, when drugs are used by a close friend, parents. A teenager can protest against the demands imposed on him in the family and school.

Personal inferiority. Pathological mental problems.

Genetic causes. hereditary predisposition.

Thus, the most common reason for adolescents to get involved in drugs is the desire to be like their friends, acquaintances, and fit in with their peer group.

After a while, the mechanisms of not only group imitation, but also pressure begin to work. And the desire to be like everyone else, not to be a "black sheep" wins.

The problem of the use of marijuana ("weed", plan) is especially acute, since there is an opinion among adolescents that there are no negative consequences of their use. But after a year, the effect of "weed" weakens, the search for a stronger drug begins, and most often it becomes raw opium, administered intravenously. In the future, a group of people with whom a teenager uses drugs becomes more and more a guideline for his behavior.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Peaceful sleep mannequin 20.12.2008

At the University of the Bundeswehr (Hamburg, Germany), experiments are underway to create an "island of silence" in any apartment.

Thirty microphones, placed above the bed in which the mannequin lies, pick up ambient noise and feed it to a computer that synthesizes similar sound vibrations, but in antiphase. They are emitted through two speakers at the headboard. As a result, the sounds cancel each other out, and the microphones built into the mannequin's head show that the noise becomes quieter by 10 decibels.

The authors of the work say that so far it is not possible to suppress rapidly changing noises, for example, from a car passing under a window.
