The model is designed for participation in all-around competitions in the F-3-B class. Although the glider is designed for domestic RUM-2 equipment, foreign equipment can also be successfully used on it.

When creating the design, the following were taken into account: operation in any weather conditions, maximum aerodynamic quality, load changes, design reliability and transportability. The airframe wing is two-spar, the front (main) belt is designed to provide bending strength, and the rear - to increase the strength of the trailing edge at the location of the spoilers (air brakes) and flaps. To enhance torsional strength and maintain the profile, the front of the wing is sheathed in balsa 1,5 mm thick. The flaps are also made from it.

Interceptors of "sandwich" design: balsa - fiberglass - balsa. All adhesive joints on epoxy resin ED-16.

The flaps and spoilers are covered with thin long-staple paper, the wing is covered with veneer and covered with five layers of enamel and two layers of zaponlak.

Interceptors are used to correct the flight path during landing approach. Flaps before the start are released manually and fixed mechanically, they are removed during the uncoupling of the model (on command). This makes it easy to start when using ballast to perform the "speed" exercise.

The fuselage is fiberglass, made of three (in the front) and two (in the rear) layers of fiberglass 0,18 mm thick, glued together in a matrix with EPS-1 epoxy resin.

To increase rigidity, several plywood and balsa frames are glued into it. The ballast chamber is located near the center of gravity of the model.

The glider's keel is trussed, glued with veneer and attached to the fuselage with detachable loops. The stabilizer is of a classic design, covered with thin long-staple paper.

The weight of the model with RUM-2 equipment is 1790 g (with varioprop - 1760 g). To perform the "speed" exercise, a ballast weighing up to 480 g is placed in the chamber. To simplify and lighten the glider, flaps and spoilers can be abandoned.

The NK-24 model was operated for three seasons and showed good results: range - 1875 m, speed - 16,3 s.

Before flying the model, check the distance between the center of gravity and the angle of attack of the wing. In light wind (in the absence of updrafts), the glider should fly for 4-4,5 minutes without sudden changes in flight speed. At the first starts, it is not advisable to use flaps.

If the glider is flying steadily in normal mode, make it dive. The elevator deflection is selected so that the entry and exit from the dive is smooth. Then adjust the deflection of the rudder. At full rudder deflection, the glider should roll strongly and turn sharply without losing speed and controllability.

The angle of deflection of the flaps is selected when tightening on the rail. Note that their excessive deviation can lead to loss of speed and controllability.

Particular attention should be paid to the following elements of the flight: the start and the beginning of the flight in front of the base, the passage of the base A and B, turns (large radius with a minimum loss of altitude and a small radius with a minimum loss of speed), precision landing, search for thermal flows.

It is best to train with the same assistant, who is both an observer and a "judge".

Training flights should be carried out according to the rules of the competition, taking into account working hours.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Calm expected 05.03.2011

Meteorologists from the European Center for Medium-Range Forecasting, having processed data from 822 weather stations scattered throughout Europe, report that at 73% of them, wind speed near the ground decreased by 1979% from 2008 to 15.

In some regions, the average wind speed dropped by five meters per second every ten years. Over the past decades, the wind has also become weaker in China, the US and Australia. What is the reason for such a lull is not entirely clear. Climatologists suggest that due to global warming, the growth of forests and other flora has increased, and as a result, wind friction near the earth's surface has increased.

The mass construction of cities also played a role, especially in China. But the wind speed at a height of 50-100 meters above the ground remained the same. This means that wind energy, which is booming in many countries, has not suffered much.
