What is quantum theory?

Light is still a huge mystery to man. We know that light travels in waves and that light waves are made up of electrical and magnetic vibrations going together. This is a type of electromagnetic wave. In 1900, the German physicist Max Planck discovered that the wave character did not fully reveal the theory of light. He tried to explain how a hot object emits radiation.

According to his theory, radiation is emitted not in a constant, continuous stream, but in small portions. Each small burst of energy is called a quantum of light. Planck's idea is now called quantum theory. A single quantum of radiation energy is so small that its flow seems to be continuous. For example, even from such a weak source as starlight, 60 quanta of light per second reach our eyes, and the light appears to be continuous.

Today, physicists consider light, on the one hand, as a wave theory, on the other hand, as a quantum theory. No single idea, by itself, can explain the phenomenon. The wave theory fully explains what happens when radiation travels through space or through matter. And quantum theory explains how radiation occurs and what happens to it when it is absorbed by matter.

Light and other types of electromagnetic radiation are very complex phenomena. Therefore, it is not surprising that neither wave nor quantum theory alone can explain what is happening.

Who were the first nuns?

Monasticism means a way of life devoted to religion. A male monastery is a building in which men who have taken a religious vow live. These men are usually monks, but priests and members of a religious brotherhood may also live in monasteries. A convent is a building in which women who have taken a religious vow live. These women are called nuns.

Monasticism was practiced long before Christian times. Groups of Jews lived in communities and ran their households. Christian monasticism began in Egypt in the third century AD. Groups of men left society in order to lead a solitary life and pray. Religious groups of women have also existed since very ancient times. But some people believe that women's monasteries were organized before men's. In the history of Christianity, when an order of monks arose, religious women's societies always appeared.

Most religious women's societies are governed by the charter of St. Augustine or St. Francis. Nuns take vows in the same way as monks. They live in nunneries, each of which has its own form of clothing.

Until the seventeenth century, nuns usually remained in monasteries and spent their lives in prayer. But since that time, many societies of nuns began to work in schools, hospitals, orphanages, nursing homes.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Hydrogen record 10.12.2004

The world's first internal combustion engine was supposed to run on hydrogen.

Christian Huygens in the 12th century proposed something like a steam engine, in the cylinder of which explosive gas would explode. As far as is known, the idea has never been tested in practice. Now, however, the German firm "BMW" has designed a car based on this principle. Liquid hydrogen is stored in a thermally insulated tank, slowly evaporates, and in gaseous form is fed into a XNUMX-cylinder engine, where it mixes with air and explodes.

In September 2004, a unique car set a speed record for this (frankly, not numerous) class of crews - 302,4 kilometers per hour. In the future, the company intends to mass-produce "hybrid" cars with hydrogen and conventional gasoline tanks.
