LG 7005

For most users who have bought the LG500, this is a first cell phone, and they defend its merits with the fervor and spontaneity of neophytes. Let's see together what this model is and what capabilities it has.

LG500 is available in three colors - Black Blue, Dark Grey, Silver; On testing there was a device of silver color. With a relatively small size (109,5 x 46 x 19,7 mm) and a weight of 93 grams, this phone, according to the manufacturer, is able to work from a 600 mAh lithium-ion battery for up to 150 hours of standby time and up to 2.5 hours of talk time. Practical tests have shown that the device works confidently for three days with 20 minutes of calls and occasional use of alarm clocks, organizer and games. The time to fully charge the battery is 2 hours. It should be noted that the battery charge level indicator actually has 4 divisions, although 3 are formally declared. When the battery charge indication completely disappears, an empty battery is displayed on the screen - the phone periodically asks to charge itself. From this point on, the LG500 can work for about half a day in normal mode.

This model has an active flip, and the microphone is located in the body of the device. Below the flip is a numeric keypad; small, closely spaced keys are inconvenient to use. In addition, the lower edge of the flip is made protruding, which makes it difficult to access the bottom row of keys (made of plastic and almost fully recessed into the case). Above the flip are the send and end keys, as well as the navigation and soft keys. The four-position navigation key allows you not only to move through the menu, but also to confirm the entry into individual items or the selection of sub-items.

When the keyboard is locked, opening the flip turns on the backlight, which is logical: the flip, as a rule, does not open itself. But here's the trouble - pressing any key (not only digital !!!) is accompanied by the appearance on the screen of information about the lock and the sound of pressing. If the soundtrack function is disabled for you, everything is in order, if not, the phone, thrown into a pocket or into a tight holster, will periodically beep. Another problem is that the device allows you to press three number keys and only then warns about the keypad lock. This mode is organized for dialing 112, but why allow other numbers to be dialed?! In the phones of most manufacturers, with the keypad locked, you can only enter 112. In the LG500, you can dial any number, but you can only call 112 - that is, this function is implemented sloppily.

There are three keys on the left side surface. Two of them are used to adjust the volume of the speaker during a call or the tone of the keys in standby mode, the latter provides access to the voice recorder (total duration of the recording - 3 minutes, each individual - no more than 30 seconds). The recorder works not only in standby mode, but also during a conversation; You can create multiple voice memos and delete them all together or individually.

Screen LG500 with a resolution of 128x64 pixels can display up to 7 lines of text with 16 characters each. The bright green backlight is clearly visible in the dark. In standby mode, the display shows the name of the carrier, icons of the battery charge level, signal strength, as well as labels for soft keys (Menu and Names). In addition, the screen can display an analog or digital clock, a date, a zodiac screen saver, or text you enter.

In the main menu, however, as in all submenus, the items are numbered, which allows you to use quick navigation. Navigation through the menu is carried out using the navigation and soft keys. The main menu icons are not animated and, unlike the LG200, are ugly. The menu leaves a feeling of confusion: many sub-items are placed separately, and this makes it difficult to navigate and memorize digital sequences. In order not to be unfounded, I will give an example. There are only 11 items in the Names menu: Search, Search e-mail, Add entry, Add e-mail, Groups, Speed dial, etc. Initially, only the first 4 items are visible on the screen, which is already inconvenient, since the need to search for postal addresses does not arise every day - these functions could be moved to the very end of the list. The voice dialing is moved to a separate menu, which, of course, is commendable and shows how reverently the developers reacted to this function. The problem is that you can only assign a voice tag to a number in this menu - you cannot do this from the phone book. It's good at least that you can select a number by searching, and not dial it again. Voice dialing supports up to 20 tags, works well. The phone can be configured so that when the flip is opened, voice dialing is activated automatically.

So, the first item of the main menu is Messages. In addition to the Inbox and Outbox folders for SMS messages, there is a Status item showing the last broadcast message. The Write item is used to create new messages. Unlike the LG200, there are no preset template functions in this model, but that's for the best. The phone supports Cyrillic letters, messages written in Russian are read correctly on other devices, for example Nokia 8210. There are no problems with receiving Russian messages either. Instead of templates, you can use your own blanks, since the memory of the phone and SIM card allows you to save up to 110 messages.

The phone book is designed for 500 names (for each name, however, only one phone), supports groups of subscribers - up to 10 groups of 20 names each. There is no special meaning in such a distribution, since it is impossible to assign personal ringing signals to different groups.

Consider the additional features of the LG500. The phone has profiles, but you can call them only through the menu, which is not always convenient. You can also turn off the soundtrack by long pressing the star key. True, if the battery runs out, the device will still squeak, although it should not.

Of the accessories, it is worth noting the presence of a Calculator and a Converter. I gave the second item verbatim, exactly as it is indicated in the LG500 menu. As it turned out, this is a translation of units of length, weight, volume and area. So, for example, you can convert centimeters to meters, grams to kilograms, etc. With this function, it is possible to convert, for example, kilometers to miles, kilograms to pounds, etc.

The World Clock item provides access to the map, where you can determine the time zone by the name of the city; Moscow is on the list. In general, when testing the phone, I constantly caught myself thinking that a lot was implemented one-on-one like on Samsung phones, world time is another example of this. True, Samsung devices, unlike LG, are qualitatively Russified, and the corresponding item is called World Time, and not World Time. The alarm clock in the phone is the simplest.

The Organizer menu allows you to create small reminders. So, by selecting a day (i.e. entering a number), you can view the list of reminders or create a new one. There are 4 types of reminders: Schedule, Call, Note and Anniversary. For each of them, you can set a sound warning. The problem is that when the flip is closed, when the reminder is triggered, opening the flip leads to its disappearance - you have to climb into the organizer menu.

There are 5 games in the phone, the first two are variations on the theme of racing, in the first case, aircraft, in the second, machine. The king of diamonds is one of the versions of Tetris, quite interesting. Stone Ax and Black Jack are boring in my opinion. It is pleasant to play games because of the good soundtrack and vibration signals.

The LG500 has 31 ringtones, all polyphonic and extremely pleasant. None of the devices (even Panasonic phones) have such melodies. High-quality sound is achieved through the use of a special speaker instead of a standard tweeter.

Impressions

LG500 provides a good stable connection and excellent sound quality during a call. The vibrating alert is very good, the volume of a regular call is enough even in very noisy places.

Redial lists for 10 numbers are provided, in which there is an age-old problem: when you redial the same number, it fills the entire list in the shortest possible time. The phone left ambivalent feelings: on the one hand, excellent technical equipment, amazing call signals, relatively long battery life, on the other hand, sloppy localization, poor implementation of most functions, non-ergonomics. At a price of 180-190 dollars, this phone will find its customers, because its unconditional advantages partially atone for the inconvenience of using it. The instruction is poorly translated, the English version is sparse and looks more like a description of the phone's capabilities than a manual for its use.

The LG500 comes with a plastic holder that allows you to attach your phone to your belt. You can’t call it comfortable or beautiful, I advise you to choose a good cover.

Let's hope that in the next LG models it will be possible to correct software shortcomings and think over the ergonomics of the devices. It is a pity if interesting technical developments are again spoiled by ill-conceived implementation.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

People with myopia sleep worse than people with normal vision 02.06.2021

Researchers from Flinders University (Adelaide, Australia) found that people with myopia (the medical term for nearsightedness) have worse sleep quality than people with normal vision due to delayed circadian rhythms and relatively low production of melatonin, a hormone responsible for regulating sleep. in nighttime.

The team analyzed circadian rhythms - 24-hour cycles that are part of the body's internal clock - and melatonin production in university students in their 20s, some of whom had myopia and others with normal vision. An analysis of the results showed that participants with myopia had significantly slowed circadian rhythms and low levels of melatonin in saliva and urine compared to participants with normal vision. At the same time, the question of what is the effect and what is the cause remains open. It is possible that it is the disruption of circadian sleep rhythms that causes a decrease in melatonin levels, and this, in turn, can trigger the mechanism of progressive myopia.

Circadian rhythm and sleep disturbances due to the advent of artificial light and the use of light-emitting electronic devices for reading and entertainment have become a recognized health problem in many parts of the world. However, their effects on eye health are still poorly understood.

The team now plans to follow up by further evaluating circadian timing and the consequences of disruption in young children, the main target group for myopia prevention. Such research will provide new insights into the biological and environmental factors that underlie myopia and help in its early diagnosis and treatment in children.
