On personal plots, perhaps, only ornamental grass - ryegrass - is spotted, scattering seeds. The vast majority of annual flowers and vegetable crops are planted in rows: this way the plants are easier to process and feed. But since the seeds are small, most often the seedlings are too thick. You have to spend a lot of time pulling, which, by the way, is not harmless to the root system.

A simple manual mechanical seeder will help you quickly and accurately plant an even bed and save you the hassle of thinning.

She is simply set up. The housing serves as a seed hopper, and the shaft, rotated by the wheels during movement, serves as a dispenser. Seeds, falling into shallow recesses on the surface of the shaft, pass under the front wall of the hopper and alternately fall into the ground. The number of seeds in one portion is regulated by a movable brush on the front wall. Several rows of grooves can be made in the shaft - with different diameters or pitches. Then a small axis shift will allow you to adjust the mechanism for seeds of various sizes. The body parts are cut from 1,5 mm thick sheet steel and connected by hard soldering. Short bushings are soldered into the holes of the sidewalls - sliding supports. The rear wall of the housing is installed so that there is a minimum clearance between it and the shaft. The front wall performs several tasks: from the outside it carries the handle sleeve, and on the opposite side it serves as a bracket for the adjusting nut and a guide for the movable brush slider.

The slider is bent from a steel strip 1 mm thick, a brush is soldered to it - a thin metal plate.

The high adjusting nut is machined from a brass rod Ø 15 mm. Its narrow groove Ø 8 mm forms a ledge that prevents axial displacement of the nut on the front wall of the housing.

The shaft is a round steel rod Ø 18 mm. The recesses for capturing seeds are formed by drilling eight shallow holes Ø 6 mm evenly distributed around the circumference; for smaller seeds - Ø 4 mm. To prevent both rows of notches from "working" at the same time, the distance between them must be at least 20 mm.

The wheel rims are cut from a 1,5 mm thick steel plate. Jumpers of their 12 holes are sawn along the radii outward. Each petal is then folded back 45°. Wheel hubs - bushings, rolled from a plate 1 mm thick, are soldered into the central holes Ø 20 mm of the discs. Due to the gap between the edges, they are slightly springy and therefore securely hold the wheels on the shaft. In addition, resting against the housing bushings, they fix the axial position of the shaft, which is necessary to select the required group of dosing holes.

When the parts are ready, insert the shaft into the housing so that the dispenser is in the hopper, put on the wheels and pour in the seeds. Roll the seeder on a level surface and turn the adjusting nut to achieve the required sowing density.

Now, inserting a wooden handle-handle, lower the seeder from the prepared soil and, having slightly deepened, pull it towards you.

With this technique, sowing in your garden will pass quickly.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New miniature PWM controller 19.01.2008

STMicroclectronics, the world's leading supplier of semiconductors for power management systems, has expanded its lineup with a new series of flexible and high performance PWM controllers.

New elements - L6726A, L6727, L6728, L6728A (in standard SO-8 or miniature 3x3mm DFN package) include voltage reference, control logic, GATE drivers, test and protection circuits. All four devices are designed for use on motherboards and for organizing a distributed power supply scheme (POL Point of Load).

Two models of these chips provide additional features for high performance applications. Firstly, this is the PowerGOOD output, which provides information about the status of the IS. Secondly, a special sensitive output for voltage overload protection and detection of voltage insufficient for operation.

The L6726A and L6727 are low cost, single-phase PWM controllers with built-in high current drivers. They make it quite easy to create DC/DC buck converters for a wide range of applications: from powering PC assemblies (memory, chipsets) to general purpose power supplies. Highly integrated, these compact devices can significantly reduce the cost and size of power supplies.
