Drainage device. Tips for the home master

My new house is good for everyone, but there is no drain. From the roof it pours onto the foundation, and in the wind - onto the walls. In the store, gutters with brackets and especially elbow pipes with a funnel "inspire quiet melancholy" with their appearance. I don't want to ruin the good looks of my house.

And I decided to do it my way.

Why not hang gutters directly on the edge of the roof, because corrugated iron roofing is tough, and even stronger in places where the sheets overlap? I made the brackets from steel strip and coated them with primer and enamel paint. I made the “bed” in the brackets along the radius of the gutters, and the gutters themselves were made of defective plastic pipes with a diameter of 100 mm, cut with a hacksaw with a fine tooth along the axis in half.

The places of attachment of the brackets to the roof were previously determined on the ground along the length of the gutters and taking into account the distances between the overlaps of the roof sheets. It is also possible to install brackets outside the overlap, especially if the gutters are removed for the winter. Aspen gaskets between the roof and the brackets picked up different thicknesses: the closer to the weir, the thicker to get a slight slope of the gutters. For the reliability of the connection, the gaskets were first attached to the brackets with one screw, and then through the holes in the brackets, I drilled holes in the gaskets and the roof and connected all this with galvanized M6 bolts.

When assembling, in places where the gutters overlap, I laid sealing gaskets made of soft rubber 2 mm thick. Plugged the end of the gutter furthest from the weir.

Drainage device
Drainage device (top view) (click to enlarge): 1 - barrel; 2 - weir (pole d30, L3200); 3 - roof; 4 - limiter (aluminum wire, d2); 5 - gutter (blank - plastic pipe d100, L2000, 3 pcs.); 6 - brackets (steel, strip 300x36x2, 4 pcs.); 7 - plug (wood); 8 - screws 4x16 (8 pcs.); 9 gasket (wood, 4 pcs.); 10 - bolt M6x48 (4 pcs.); 11 - sealing gaskets (soft rubber 140x15x2, 3 pcs.); 12 - bolt M4x16 (8 pcs.); 13 - figured washer (aluminum alloy, sheet 20x20x3, 4 pcs.).

I have the simplest spillway - an aspen pole without bark, installed between the end of the gutter and the bottom of the receiving barrel. The upper end of the pole is fixed with a wire passed through two holes in the gutter. Water drains along the pole, and only with strong gusts of wind it partially breaks off and falls past the barrel.

To some, a weir pole will seem unaesthetic. Well, it can be covered with bright paint, intricately decorate the top end protruding above the gutter, and so on. In the end, it’s not bad to ennoble a barrel for water.

So, rainwater is trapped - moderately beautiful, inexpensive and handmade.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>
