Not only the house itself, but also the fence around it can say a lot about the owner: for one it is a light fence, for another it is a fence, and for the third it is a blank fence. But whatever the fence, it must be maintained in order, then it looks completely different. Here are some practical tips suggested to readers by the Hungarian magazine Ezermešter.

1. A lopsided, rotten fence post can be reinforced with a bar dug in or clogged next to it, checking the verticality with a level. For greater stability, it is better to nail the beam to the post with nails or attach it with bolts, drilling holes for them with a brace, and after tightening the nuts, cutting off the excess bolts with a hacksaw:

2. It will be even more reliable to fix a rickety hedge if you install a supporting beam-strut:

3. A good "magic wand" when repairing a fence is a metal corner: it will help attach the horizontal lines to the post or splice them at the fracture site:

4. Having cut down the rotted lower fence board, a new one can be attached to a bar nailed to the post:

5. When restoring a wooden fence, you should try to remove the old nails: their rust harms the tree. It is also advisable not to violate the previous structure of the fence: if the boards were sewn on overlay, then the “patch” must be put in the same way:

6. When replacing large sections, it is better to mark the fence line with twine stretched between the pegs; cut the horizontals "under the pencil" and insert them with pointed ends into the grooves of the columns; when attaching boards, it is better to use a measuring bar, achieving the same width of the "pattern":

7. A capital fence can also be assembled from separate, pre-knocked down shields, attaching them to the posts with nails or using metal ears:

8. A decorative lattice can be arranged on top of the fence, which also increases its height:

9. A light fence made of thin poles nailed at the same distance from each other looks beautiful:

10. An interesting version of a decorative hedge is easy to obtain by nailing poles or pickets in an inclined position:

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New games will need an SSD 21.06.2023

Many of the latest games increasingly require the use of solid state drives (SSDs), ditching the obsolete spinning hard drives. Microsoft revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase a new Bethesda IP called Starfield, which requires 25GB of SSD storage for the first time in 125 years when it launches on September 6th. This is not just a recommendation, but the minimum system requirements to play Starfield on PC.

Such changes are not isolated cases. CD Projekt Red has also raised the minimum specs for its Cyberpunk 2077 game, requiring an SSD and phasing out HDD support. While this change in system requirements is due to the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion, which will not be available on older Xbox One and PS4 consoles with hard drives, the base PC game will also be updated to meet these new minimum SSD requirements.

CD Projekt Red explains the change this way: "One of the changes is the removal of HDD support in the minimum system requirements. SSDs offer faster boot times, better data transfer and better performance than HDDs."

Despite this, Cyberpunk 2077 will still run on hard drives, but CD Projekt Red will no longer actively support and test the game on such devices, which may result in performance issues or bugs.

There are more games ahead of us that require at least an SSD as game developers continue to move away from previous generation consoles like Xbox One and PS4 and focus more on the boundaries of the new Xbox Series S/X and PS5 consoles. Since all current consoles are equipped with an SSD, we'll see how developers can use this technology to boot quickly without the need for hard drives. We may also see more games supporting DirectStorage technology.

Over time, it is expected that most games will require the use of an SSD as developers look to make the most of the opportunities provided by SSDs and move away from legacy hard drives. While games will not immediately stop working on hard drives, developers will actively focus on SSD support and testing games on this technology, which can lead to performance limitations and errors when using hard drives.

Thus, we are on the path to a gradual transition to the use of SSD in the gaming industry. Gamers can still continue to use hard drives, but game developers are looking to move into the world of SSDs, where loading speed and quietness are the standard.
