BUILDER, HOUSEHOLDER
Impromptu hammock. Tips for the home master Directory / Builder, home master For most, the days of summer vacations are a time of carefree family vacations, which many people spend in their country house, garden or garden. It is at this time that every vacationer tries to make up for the "missing" fresh air and sun during the year, rejoicing in them to the fullest. And not only in the chores in the beds or plantings. For the convenience of outdoor recreation, it would be nice to hang a hammock - between two garden trees, poles or supports of a children's swing. He's "multi-purpose": suitable for just relaxing, and for reading, and even for sleeping. And most importantly - it is not difficult to make it yourself, the Hungarian magazine "Ezermeshter" testifies. The starting point in this matter can be the average weight of a person. Since not only young people with children, but also elderly people rest in the country, this value will be quite large, so it is important to ensure the necessary reliability of the structure. For the manufacture of a hammock, you will need a panel of strong tarpaulin 900 mm wide (the so-called mattress tarpaulin). It is not recommended to use a narrower fabric, since in this case the vacationer risks falling out of the hammock among a sweet dream in the fresh air. In order for the hammock to be used by both children and adults, the length of the panel for the sunbed must be at least 2600 mm. For structural rigidity, the ends of the hammock are reinforced with two spacers - wooden rods 930 mm long and 30 - 40 mm in diameter. The fabric must be securely fastened to them. To do this, the ends of the fabric are tucked and stitched, and rods are inserted into the resulting transverse "sleeves". Rope stretch marks are attached to them, if possible, kapron, with a diameter of approximately 8 mm (instead of them, car seat belts are suitable for this purpose). The length of the hammock stretches takes into account its length and the distance between the supports.
The edges of the fabric must be hemmed before sewing. This can also be done on a conventional machine. At each end, the fabric is tucked 150 mm (thus, the length of the hammock will be 2300 mm). Since it is impossible to ensure the reliability of the stitching of the "sleeves" under the spacers by simply sewing the hammock fabric, it is recommended to additionally use metal caps with a diameter of 10 mm for this purpose. They are installed in the middle of the stitched collar. There should be at least nine caps on each side, that is, a total of 18 pieces. This is also a responsible area of work. Both rows of pins should be positioned approximately 20 mm from the edge of the fabric stitch. In each wooden rod inserted into the "sleeve", it is necessary to first make two holes with a diameter of about 10 mm at a distance of 75 mm from the end - in order to pass a stretch through them. The ends of the rods must be rounded, and then both spacers must be varnished. Having attached the rods to the "sleeves" of the lounger, mark the location of the holes for the rope on them. After the holes in the tarpaulin are cut out, they must be sheathed and reinforced with caps. As shown in the figure, the guy is passed through the holes of the rod, and the length of the outer ends should not be less than 1000 mm. Then both ends of the rope are tied in such a way that a loop is obtained for the suspension. In fact, the hammock is ready. If there is a tarpaulin residue (about 800 mm long), it becomes possible to make a pillow cover for a hammock. To do this, the fabric is folded in half, and in accordance with Figure 4, one of the ends of the fabric for the cover is tucked up and stitched (holes are made on this strip and caps are installed); the second is also tucked and stitched, superimposed with an indent from the first (to form a hole for the pillow), after which the sides of the cover are sewn. Thus, a "bag" is obtained, in the opening of which it will be possible to put a pillow.
The pillow cover is attached through the caps to the hammock using a cord threaded as shown in Figure 4. A foam or cotton pillow is first placed in the opening of the cover. It remains to hang the hammock and test it for strength. It is advisable to put on a polyvinyl chloride tube on the loops of stretch marks intended for hanging a hammock: this will protect the ropes from premature wear. The hanging height of the hammock should not be too high so that even children can use it without danger of falling. It is nice to relax in such a hammock, especially if it is made with your own hands.
