A heater like a mini-electric heater (IEC) is unlikely to surprise anyone now. You can buy these small-sized and rather convenient household appliances for every taste. But it is not at all necessary to spend money on industrial products, especially imported ones. For example, for a long time I have been serving a self-made and, according to the unanimous recognition of the household, a very aesthetic IEC.

It is based on a nichrome spiral from a tile, an electrophonic motor (hereinafter referred to as an electric motor "for solidity") and a paint can.

As in most industrial analogues, the air flow in this heater creates a homemade multi-blade propeller. Rigidly fixed on the motor shaft, it drives the air through a hot nichrome spiral, mounted on struts made of heat-resistant electrically insulating material. This is in room heating or clothes drying mode. When the heater is turned off, the homemade IEC works like a normal fan.

That is, inaction to such an electrical appliance does not threaten. There is no doubt about its reliability either. The only thing that is required from users is not to forget about fire safety rules.

As already noted, a paint tin can is adapted as a case for a home-made IEC. This is dictated not so much by the availability of the source material, but by the maximum simplicity, and hence the reliability of the entire structure. With any other technical solution, you would have to take care of additional brackets for mounting the electric motor.

Mini electric heater
Homemade electric heater (click to enlarge): 1 - housing; 2 - thermal insulator (slate, strip L150, 4 pcs.); 3 - electric heater; 4 - insulating insert; 5 - terminal (2 pcs.); 6,8 - legs; 7 - mounting wires in heat-resistant insulation; 9 - screw M4 (4 pcs.); 10 - corner bracket (quantity - according to the number of propeller blades); 11 - propeller; 12 - mounting sleeve; 13 - electric motor rotor; 14-electric motor with a capacitor and a resistor in the winding circuit; 15 - electric cord; 16- general switch; 17 - electric heater switch; 18 - control panel; 19 - speed controller; 20 - self-tapping screw (7 pcs.); 21 - handle; plug and fuse not shown; dimensions of homemade parts - in place

Here, the brackets were not needed, they were replaced ... by the bottom of the can. An air intake window is cut in it strictly in the center and holes are drilled for the motor mounting screws.

The electric motor from the Yunost-301 electrophone came up very well. It is compact, reliable and economical and at the same time develops a sufficiently large torque and high shaft speed. And most importantly, it does not need a step-down transformer or an imported adapter to work in a household network.

In particular, this electric motor, which has only two windings, can be connected to a 220 V household network according to the scheme with a K-40P capacitor with a capacity of 1 μF and a PE-7,5 resistor with a resistance of 1,2 kOhm. And to make such a device more convenient to use, small improvements have been introduced in the form of a variable resistor SP (1 W, 680 Ohm) for adjusting the air flow rate and a heater control toggle switch.

The propeller is cut from tin can. The number of blades is chosen at will - I limited myself to five. Such a propeller is mounted on the motor shaft with the help of simple brackets (pieces of steel angle) and a sleeve made of the same tinplate. Soldering - tin solder.

Nichrome heater - from an inexpensive electric stove. In the heater, this spiral is placed on heat-resistant slate extensions-thermal insulators, in which holes of the appropriate diameter and a central (subassembly into a spike) rectangular cut are made. Moreover, the length of the latter in a pair fastened in the form of the letter X is twice as large as that of the cruciform version.

For convenient connection of the heater to IEC, special terminals are provided. In the heater, they are located at the bottom of the can body, on a special fiberglass panel.

In the upper part of the air intake end of the MEK, a control panel with a fuse (not shown in the assembly sketch), a speed controller for the motor shaft, toggle switches for turning on the household appliance, both with and without a heater, is fixed on self-tapping screws.

To make this whole structure stable, legs are screwed on the bottom of the case, and a carrying handle is provided on top. The mass of a home-made electric heater is slightly more than a kilogram. The power consumption depends mainly on the heater. In this embodiment, it is about 100 watts.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>
