What happens to parallel lines in Lobachevsky geometry?

According to popular belief, in Lobachevsky geometry, parallel lines intersect. In fact, they cannot intersect in any geometry by virtue of the very definition of parallelism. The main difference between Lobachevsky's geometry and Euclidean geometry is that through a point not lying on a given line, one can draw not one, but at least two straight lines that do not intersect it and are in the same plane.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What is a neutron star?

Neutron stars are formed as a result of the gravitational collapse of stars with a mass 1,5-2,5 times the mass of the Sun (if the mass of the star is greater, a black hole appears).

Inside a neutron star, free electrons and protons neutralize each other, forming neutrons and neutrinos, which stops the collapse. This process of "neutronization" continues until the main part of the star consists of neutrons.

The density of a neutron star is approximately a quintillion (billion billion) kilograms per cubic meter, which is greater than the density of an atomic nucleus. One cubic centimeter of neutron star matter would weigh about a billion tons on Earth.

It is precisely because of their enormous density that neutron stars are extremely compact: with a mass of about two solar masses, a neutron star has a radius of about 10 kilometers.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Operational amplifiers STMicroelectronics TSX561, TSX562, TSX564 09.10.2012

The first 16-volt operational amplifiers (op-amps) of the new generation were introduced by STMicroelectronics. According to the manufacturer, the use of "advanced technical process" for their manufacture will help reduce energy consumption, improve accuracy and simplify the design of sensors used in a wide range of applications - from automotive electronics to smart homes and industrial automation. New OS are designed for use in these areas. Miniature microcircuits will have to amplify weak sensor signals. Their low power consumption is useful for battery or solar powered systems.

The advantages of the amplifiers include a high degree of protection against electrostatic voltage (up to 4 kV) and the ability to operate in a wide temperature range - from -40°C to 125°C.

The TSX561 model contains one, the TSX562 models two, and the TSX564 models four op amps, designed to operate from 3 to 16 V supply voltage. At 5 V, the typical quiescent current is 240 μA. The TSX561 is available in a SOT23-5 package, the TSX562 is available in a 8 x 2mm DFN2 and MiniSO-8 package, and the TSX564 is a 16 x 3mm QFN3 and TSSOP14 package. Mass production has already begun, prices start at $0,50 apiece.
