What is weed?

When we say "weed" we are not referring to the scientific classification of plants. It's just the way people call certain types of plants. Weeds are commonly referred to as plants that grow in places where they are not supposed to grow. The dandelion in the middle of the clearing is a weed. Dandelion grown as a medicinal plant is not a weed. Clover is not a weed in a pasture, but a weed in a flower bed.

Sometimes the same plants are weeds for some people and not for others. City people collect daisies, buttercups, bluebells and cornflowers. And the farmer, who saw the same flowers on his plot, will cry out: "Weeds!" - and fly them.\

Weeds, therefore, are plants that grow in the wrong place. Usually these plants reproduce surprisingly quickly and in large numbers. This means that weeds survive better than specially cultivated plants. Some weeds are very tall. Wild lettuce reaches 2 meters in height. Even higher is his burdock.

Some weeds, on the contrary, are very stunted and creep along the ground. Many weeds do their harmful work underground. For example, wild carrots and dandelions have long, thick roots. This helps them absorb water even during dry periods, depriving field plants of moisture.

Some plants have widely spreading roots that rush underground in different directions and give life to a large number of new plants. Weed control chemicals have been developed to help control weed growth.

Why do snakes have scales?

Snakes are reptiles, and like all reptiles, they have dry, scaly skin. Relatives of snakes are lizards, alligators, crocodiles, sea and land turtles. Since there are more than 2000 species of snakes in the world, it is not surprising that they live everywhere: on earth, underground, in trees and in water, inhabiting almost all regions of our planet, with the exception of the polar regions and some islands.

As noted earlier, snakes have no legs (although pythons and boas have the remains of hind legs), and plates (or scales) located on the belly help them move. They are quite wide, and the snake moves them in such a way that the edge of the plate is repelled by some unevenness on the surface of the earth. Pushing off several plates at the same time, the snake moves forward.

All snakes, both old and young, molt periodically. Even the film covering the eyes gives way to a new one. In the process of molting, the skin of the snake is turned inside out. The snake gets rid of it by rubbing against any bumps or stones. Moulting in snakes occurs several times a year.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

Optimal time for jogging 14.11.2023

In the course of the study, scientists were able to identify the best time for running. These findings were made by a research team led by representatives from the University of Birmingham in Britain, with the active support of colleagues from the University of Bath.

Scientific work highlights the importance of timing your running, especially for those looking to improve metabolism and control blood sugar. Jogging in the morning, according to data, may be more effective for burning fat, which affects the overall health of the body. However, for a complete picture, the effects on the female body should be further checked.

According to research, it is most beneficial to run before breakfast, as it helps boost your metabolism. This approach also helps control blood sugar levels.

The experiment was conducted among overweight men, and those who ran before their morning meal burned fat more effectively than those who ran after breakfast.

Scientists explain this effect by the fact that when fasting at night, a person’s insulin level decreases during training, which contributes to more active consumption of fat. Although the effect on weight loss may not be as obvious as on overall health. It is planned to test the results of the study also on women.
