In Russia, until the 19th century, the inhabitants of Switzerland were called porters, until the word "porter" began to be commonly called doorkeepers and guards of entrances. Because of the constant confusion, they decided to use a new word for the inhabitants of a mountainous country - "Swiss". Historically, the closeness of these words is explained by the fact that at one time Western European sovereigns, including the popes, preferred to recruit their bodyguards from the Swiss.

How is wine made?

Wine can be made from many types of fruits and plants that contain natural sugar. The largest amount of wine is made from grapes. This is the most suitable natural product for winemaking, because grapes contain enough sugar for fermentation. It also produces the yeast that starts the wine-making process after the juice has been squeezed.

Grapes grown for wine contain more sugar and less acid. It is harvested at a certain degree of maturity required for the production of wine. Mechanical crushers crush the fruits and gently squeeze out the juice so as not to destroy the seeds. Natural wine yeast contained in the shell of the fruit ferments the juice, converting grape sugar into alcohol and carbon dioxide.

White wines are obtained by fermenting grape juice without shells, red - with shells. The color of the wine is given by the shells of the fruit. When the wine reaches the desired color, the peel is removed and the wine ferments without it. If winemakers want sweet wine, they stop the fermentation process before all the sugar has been converted to alcohol and carbon dioxide. Maturation is divided into two stages. At the first stage, wooden barrels are used. In the second stage, the wine is bottled. The aging time of the wine and bringing it to the condition depends on its type. Maturation turns a young wine from an ordinary mash into an exquisite drink with a delicate taste.
