Why is a movie advertisement called a trailer?

The promotional announcement of the upcoming film is called a "trailer". However, in English, the main meaning of the verb trail is "to follow the trail", that is, logically, trailers should not precede the main film, as happens in modern cinemas, but follow at the end of it. This is exactly what happened in 1912, when the first trailers appeared, but soon the distributors realized the futility of this approach, since the bulk of the audience left the place after the final credits and did not want to watch the announcements. Then it was decided to show trailers at the beginning of the session, and the term itself was already fixed in the language.

Who Invented Skates?

Man has been skating for over 500 years! Ice skating is much older than roller skating, as roller skating was only introduced in the eighteenth century. Roller skates were used on the roads in Holland about 200 years ago, and we don't know who actually made them and stood on them. A New Yorker named J. L. Plimpton invented the four-wheel roller skate in 1863. They were skated on a rubber mat, it was this type of skate that made roller skating popular.

The next step in the development of inline skates was ball bearing skates. The wheels for the first inline skates were made of boxwood, but the edges of the wooden wheels broke off too easily. Soon the wheels were made of hard alloys or steel.

Until about 1910, roller skating was very popular in America, and then they were supplanted by motorcycle racing and sports car racing. But there is no doubt that roller skating has remained one of the favorite sports of young people.

Ice skating began around the XNUMXth century. In those days, Scandinavians tied skates made from animal bones to their feet and glided on ice surfaces. Then came metal skates, from which modern steel skates are descended.

Once upon a time, skates were attached to the legs with long leather straps. Later, skates began to be attached to shoes with clips and straps. Currently, skates are rigidly attached to boots.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Silent boots over shoes 26.01.2002

In the USA, special boots were invented that are worn over ordinary shoes. Walking in them remains almost silent.

The novelty is based on the use of oiled leather (spandex), covered with elastic fabric. In addition, to achieve the effect of maximum noiselessness, the creators provided their development with special shock-absorbing cords and foam inserts designed to "absorb" sounds.

It is assumed that the main customers of the new boots will be the US Armed Forces, as well as the FBI special forces, the success of whose operations largely depends on the equipment, equipment and uniforms used. It is also possible that the development will soon be used by the American infantry in Afghanistan.
