Still capable of bearing fruit is the womb that bore the reptile

Bertolt Brecht
Bertolt Brecht

Phraseologism: The womb that bore the reptile is also capable of bearing fruit.

Meaning: Quoted as a reminder that the source of evil is not destroyed, its manifestations have disappeared, but not the causes.

Origin: The words of the German writer, director and public figure Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956) about fascism and the circumstances that gave rise to it.

Random phraseology:

Dear closet.

Meaning:

The phrase is a symbol of pompous speeches, often heard at anniversaries, solemn meetings (jokingly ironic).

Origin:

From the play (act. 1) "The Cherry Orchard" (1903) by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (1860-1804). Gaev, a gentleman who "ate his entire fortune on candy" and was forced to sell his ancestral homestead, addresses an old bookcase with a pompous speech: "Dear, respected bookcase! I salute your existence, which for more than a hundred years has been directed towards the bright ideals of good and justice, your silent call for fruitful work has not weakened for a hundred years, maintaining (through tears) in the generations of our kind cheerfulness, faith in a better future and educating in us the ideals of goodness and social self-consciousness. From the memoirs of the founder of the Moscow Art Theater K. S. Stanislavsky about the anniversary honoring of A. P. Chekhov on the stage of his theater after the premiere of The Cherry Orchard (January 17, 1904): "One of the writers began his speech with almost the same words as Gaev greets the old closet in the first act: "Dear and respected (instead of the word" closet "the writer inserted the name of Anton Pavlovich) ... I greet you," etc. Anton Pavlovich glanced sideways at me, the performer Gaev, - and an insidious smile flickered on his lips" (Yu. Sobolev, Chekhov, M. 1934).

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. Noise can raise blood cholesterol levels 02.06.2018

American scientists called noise in the workplace a serious factor in developing hypertension, as well as an increase in blood cholesterol levels. They studied the impact of noise on people employed in industrial production.

Approximately one in eight of those working in this field reported hearing problems. It turned out that more than 50% of them faced health problems over time precisely because of exposure to excessive noise in the workplace.

"Approximately a quarter of all workers were exposed to loud noise in the workplace. 24% were found to have hypertension. 28% of participants showed too high cholesterol levels," the researchers said.

According to scientists, the most dangerous, based on the above parameters, are production, construction and mining. At least half of the people working in these industries are systematically exposed to loud noise.
