Why was Crabbe absent from the last Harry Potter movie?

In the final Harry Potter book, Vincent Crabbe dies from hellfire in the help-room, but in the last film, these events occur with Gregory Goyle, and Crabbe is not shown in it at all. This is due to the fact that the actor Jamie Waylett, who played Crabbe in all previous film adaptations, was arrested for growing hemp, and the director of the film did not replace him with another actor.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

How did contemporaries assess the merits of Hypatia, the last luminary of Alexandrian science?

The last scholar to work in the Library of Alexandria was Hypatia, a female mathematician, astronomer, and neoplatonist philosopher whose range of scientific writings is incredibly wide for one person in any century.

Hypatia was born in Alexandria in 370. At a time when women had little choice (they were often treated like property), she freely and defiantly intruded into the traditionally male domain. Alexandria was then under the rule of Rome, and the Christian church was gaining strength and trying to exterminate the pagan culture, its influence. Hypatia found herself at the very center of these powerful social forces.

Bishop Cyril of Alexandria despised her because of her close friendship with the Roman governor and because she was a symbol of knowledge and science, which the church in the early period mainly identified with paganism.

Ignoring the danger, Hypatia continued to spread knowledge, until in 415, on the way to the library, she was torn to pieces by a crowd of Cyril's parishioners. They dragged Hypatia from the chariot, tore off her clothes and skinned her skin and meat to the bones with sea shells. The remains of Hypatia were burned, the works were destroyed, and the name was forgotten for a long time. And the church canonized Bishop Cyril as a saint.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Cultivation of GM tomatoes approved for cancer, diabetes and dementia 07.12.2022

The unusual purple color tomatoes were developed in the UK. They owe their shade to snapdragon - and he also gave the fruits a large amount of anthocyanins that are healthy for health.

Work on the creation of an unusual vegetable lasted for 14 years. The task of scientists Cathy Martin and Eugenio Boutelli from the John Innes Center in Norfolk, England, was to obtain tomatoes with high levels of anthocyanins.

Anthocyanins occur naturally in many fruits and vegetables with red, purple, or blue flesh and skin, such as blueberries, strawberries, eggplant, and red cabbage.

However, in their work, British breeders preferred to use garden flowers called snapdragons. By incorporating their genes into the DNA of tomatoes, scientists have obtained fruits with unusual properties.

Due to the high level of anthocyanins, purple tomatoes have twice the shelf life of red varieties. Also, the miracle of selection is less susceptible to fungi.

Anthocyanins may also provide health benefits. Studies of other products containing them have shown that they reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and cancer. They may also protect the brain from diseases such as dementia.

While research into the benefits of purple tomatoes, especially for humans, is still ongoing, one study in which these tomatoes were fed to cancer-prone mice found that the latter lived up to 30% longer than those fed red tomatoes.

These arguments became decisive for the Food and Drug Administration. The agency has authorized the cultivation and sale of purple tomatoes in the United States. These vegetables should be on the market in 2023.
