Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Where did ceramic restoration become an art form using gold powder?

The restoration of broken pottery in Japan has evolved from utilitarian gluing to an art called kintsugi. Instead of glue, craftsmen use a special varnish mixed with gold, silver or platinum powder. If during ordinary repairs they try to carefully mask the seams and cracks, then the purpose of kintsugi, on the contrary, is to emphasize them according to the philosophical concept of accepting flaws and shortcomings as the frailty of being. Some Japanese collectors were even accused of deliberately beating expensive items just for the sake of restoration in the style of kintsugi.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Fujitsu Stylistic Q736 Rugged Device 27.02.2016

Fujitsu launches a secure 2-in-1 device. The new Stylistic Q736 tablet uses various types of security technologies, including Fujitsu PalmSecure biometric technology based on palm vein recognition.

New 13,3-inch (33,8 cm) tablet that weighs less than 1 kg, converts into a classic laptop when connected to a keyboard dock, provides secure authentication based on biometrics or SmartCard technology, and supports contactless SmartCards with NFC (near-field communication) function. What's more, the Stylistic Q736 is equipped with an encrypted storage drive with an Intel TPM (Trusted Platform Module) that creates a secure vault for security keys and passwords in the system, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive data.

The combination of performance and security features makes the Fujitsu Stylistic Q736 an excellent choice for vertical industries, where it is equally important to ensure the security of data stored on the device - for example, medical records in medical institutions or bank account information in financial institutions, and secure access to the most tablet.

In addition, after a quick authentication, the new Stylistic Q736 provides access to corporate data from anywhere, at any time. The tablet offers enterprise-class connectivity, including 4G/LTE networks and built-in GPS support.

"Human error is one of the most common security issues, so we've implemented a new user-centric approach to eliminate system-level vulnerabilities," explained Jorg Hartmann, Category Management Director, Fujitsu EMEIA Products. "The new Stylistic Q736 supports advanced biometric and SmartCard security technologies that help mitigate the risks associated with common but catastrophic errors, such as when an employee leaves their tablet unlocked in a public place."

Stylistic Q736 is capable of continuous operation from one battery for about 9,5 hours and up to 15 hours when using a second battery (optional). The Microsoft Windows 10 Professional operating system guarantees compatibility with corporate networks and applications. Standard features include a digital pen for fully digitizing handwritten notes and Intel Pro Wireless Display technology for wireless connection to an external monitor. Fujitsu is positioning the Stylistic Q736 as a laptop replacement for stationary use.

The Stylistic Q736 features the latest processors, up to the 7th Gen Intel Core i6 vPro, and a 13,3-inch (33,8 cm) high-resolution Full HD (1920 x 1080) anti-glare IPS touch display with dual digitizer.
