Professor Peter Fröhlich, who teaches computer science and programming at Johns Hopkins University, used a flexible grading system for exams: he equated the result of the best student to 100%, and measured the rest as a percentage of the maximum. Seven years after the start of applying this technique, the students of the next stream decided to hack it: they agreed to boycott the exam by coming to the university, but not entering the classroom. Since in this case the best score was 0 points, all students should have automatically received 100%. The professor was surprised that the students were able to agree and take risks all together for the common good, but he gave all the participants in the boycott the highest mark. After this incident, Fröhlich amended his system so that this situation would not happen again.
