What was the purpose of the world's first puzzle?

The world's first jigsaw puzzle was invented by the English cartographer John Spilsbury around 1760. But it was intended not for entertainment, but for educational purposes, as it was a map of Europe cut into states. This teaching method was very visual and the children really liked it, and only many years later other people came up with the idea of releasing game puzzles.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Who was the first ruler of England?

We used to think that Britain has always been part of Europe. But it is not. She was not until the XNUMXst century BC. e. The Romans took over Britain and no one in Europe knew anything about it. This is a period in British history about which we know very little.

During the first conquest, the population was called "Britons". They spoke various Celtic dialects, were engaged in agriculture, raised cattle and horses, used iron to make utensils and weapons. Most of them lived in thatched huts in large villages. It was the Romans who built the cities and connected them with roads.

After the departure of the Romans at the beginning of the XNUMXth century, the population remained weakened and fragmented. Hordes of Angles, Saxons and Jutes moved from Denmark and the countries lying on the Rhine. Only after the approval of the Angles, the country received the name "England". Seven large kingdoms formed from small scattered tribes and established themselves in England.

The first settlers, the Britons, were forced into the highlands of Wales and Scotland. These seven kingdoms were called the Heptarchy, or the Union of the Seven States of the Angles and Saxons. In the ninth century they were united under Egbert, who became the first king of England. By this time, England had adopted the Christian faith, which united her with the countries of continental Europe.

Under King Alfred the Great, England was once again forced to fight for independence against the daring invasions of the Danes. This continued until the 24th century, when the country fell under the rule of the Danish king Canute. Later, when the Anglo-Saxon king Edward the Confessor ascended the throne, during his reign the country received a XNUMX-year respite of peace. And after his death, strife flared up again, who would become his successor.

Eventually, in 1066, William, Duke of Normandy, captured England and was later proclaimed its king. The conquest of England by the Normans so changed the life of the country that it can be considered the beginning of a new period in its history.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Intel Cyclone 10 Field Programmable Gate Arrays 14.02.2017

Intel introduced the Cyclone 10 field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). According to the manufacturer, their release was a response to a growing number of Internet of Things applications. Designed to provide fast and energy efficient data processing, the arrays are designed for numerous applications including automotive, industrial electronics, professional audio and video equipment.

The family includes the Cyclone 10 GX and Cyclone 10 LP FPGAs. In the first, the manufacturer notes the support for 10G and the presence of a floating-point DSP. The performance of these matrices is twice that of their predecessors. They can find applications in industrial vision systems and smart city applications, including monitoring parking lots, roads and bridges. In addition, Cyclone 10 GX FPGAs are well suited for video streaming equipment, industrial motor control systems, CNC machines, power tools and robots.

As for the Intel Cyclone 10 LP, these FPGAs are designed for cost and power-driven applications where 75K logic gates are sufficient, including intra-system interconnects and microprocessor I/O expansion. In addition, Cyclone 10 LP can be used in vehicles to process data from rear view cameras and sensors.

Deliveries of FPGA Cyclone 10 will begin in the second half of the year. Introductory kits and development boards will also be available at that time.
