When did man start shaving his beard?

A man with a beard looks majestic and important, doesn't it? In the history of mankind, there has always been such an attitude towards a beard. Therefore, if we come across an influential person of antiquity, he is usually depicted with a beard. For example, the Greek god Zeus. Abraham, King Arthur and others in all the images appear with a beard.

In Western civilizations, there were different attitudes towards the beard. Sometimes it was considered very fashionable, and a special right was given to wearing a beard. Sometimes it was forbidden so much that it was impossible to show with a beard.

Before the Norman conquest of England, beards were considered unfashionable and men were not bearded. Then the fashion changed, and beards began to be worn again. The kings of England, who were trendsetters (and people followed them), had different attitudes to this. For example, Henry II was beardless, Richard II had a small beard, and Henry III wore a long beard. In the middle of the XNUMXth century, most men had thick, curled beards, this became most common in the XNUMXth century. Then beards disappeared in the XNUMXth century, and reappeared in the XNUMXth century. Henry VIII brought them back into fashion.

In Queen Elizabeth's time, lawyers, soldiers, judges, and merchants had beards. And when Queen Anne came to the throne, none of those who held any posts wore beards, mustaches, or sideburns. When George III was imprisoned and his beard began to grow, his followers were most depressed by this fact.

As you can see, the man himself chooses whether to wear a beard or not. And it does not depend on whether he has a razor or not. Fashion dictates it.

Which woman in ancient Egypt was depicted with a man's beard?

In 1490 BC, Pharaoh Thutmose II died suddenly. His wife, half-sister and co-ruler Hatshepsut, the guardian of her infant adopted son (Thutmose III), declared herself pharaoh, explaining this by the alleged prediction of the god Amun.

The artists depicted Hatshepsut with a beard and in men's attire. Her reign was the time of the cultural and economic prosperity of Egypt, which was facilitated by the policy of peace pursued by the queen, but during her reign Egypt's possessions in Palestine and Syria were almost lost.

In 1468, Thutmose III overthrew her stepmother from the throne, and then ordered her to be killed and her name removed from all temple inscriptions and royal scrolls.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Smart fabric keeps you warm and cool 16.02.2019

The concept of smart clothes that can automatically cool or heat their wearer is still in development and is constantly being tested by many developers in many formats. However, material and chemical engineering specialists at the University of Maryland in the US have their own answer to the question of how such smart clothes should be created. Today, the research team has presented a material with unique properties and structure, capable of automatically detecting body temperature and other related features, and then effectively cool or, conversely, heat its wearer according to the situation.

Despite the fact that scientists are still in no hurry to reveal all the most interesting details regarding their new development, it can be understood that the material has really interesting properties - firstly, it is made up of a double fabric system, and secondly, it has the ability to very quickly read the level of thermal radiation emanating from the skin of a person at the moment when his body emits heat or vice versa, seeks to delay it.

As for the double fabric system, it is a test sample in which one part of the fabric has water-repellent properties, and the second, on the contrary, absorbs it - this allows the fabric to be used both for heating and for cooling. Most likely, the finished working concept will be similar to what was previously presented by scientists from the University of California, who developed a jacket that is warm on one side and cool on the other. In addition, it is known that the new material also uses a special artificial intelligence system, thus determining the exact level of heat or cold.

It is worth noting the fact that work on this type of fundamental technology has been carried out by specialists from the University of Maryland over the past five years, and they have very carefully observed what their fellow developers offer. Based on this observation and their own success, they have a very good chance of soon introducing an absolutely complete type of such an automatic and intelligent material for use in the textile industry.
