What language does not have the words yes and no?

There are no words for "yes" and "no" in Scottish Gaelic. Agreement and disagreement are expressed in full sentences. When Gaelic children learn English, they are first taught what "yes" and "no" are and what they mean.

The Chinese language does not have specific words for "yes" and "no". When you need to answer a question, you just need to repeat the verb: for example, to the question "Do you like rice?" the Chinese should answer "I love" or "I don't like".

If there is no active verb in the question, for example, "Is today Monday?", then the positive answer is a linking verb 是 like to be in English, and the negative answer is the same linking verb with a negative particle 不是.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

Which planet in the solar system was the first to be discovered with a telescope?

Before the invention of the telescope, the most distant planet available for observation was Saturn (more distant planets cannot be seen with the naked eye). The first telescope appeared in 1608, but more than 170 years passed before the discovery of Uranus, although it was repeatedly observed during this period, describing it as a dim star.

The Aristotelian idea that the number of wandering bodies, planets in the etymological sense of the word, should be equal to seven (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn plus the Sun and Moon), is so rooted in the minds of astronomers that no one followed the period of movement of this dim object.

The honor of discovering a new planet belongs to William Herschel, a musician from Hanover who moved to England. In March 1781, for several nights, he observed a section of the sky in the direction of the constellation Gemini and noticed a volumetric non-point object that slowly moved across the firmament. At first, Herschel thought it was a comet, but the edges of comets seem blurry, and the body he observed was bright and clear.

Astronomers and mathematicians throughout Europe began to calculate the size and orbit of the mysterious object. Already in May 1781, it became finally clear that for the first time since ancient times a planet had been discovered.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The concentration of carbon in the air has reached a record high 13.04.2021

If carbon emissions are not completely stopped by 2050, global climate change will no longer be stopped Scientists from the Mauna Loa Observatory and the University of California San Diego recorded record high levels of carbon concentration in the air.

The research was carried out simultaneously by employees of the observatory in Hawaii and a university in the United States. The conclusions of scientists are identical. There is a lot of carbon in the atmosphere right now. This is the highest figure since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases in March averaged 417,14 parts per million.

According to scientists, this is an absolute record. The previous record monthly carbon dioxide concentration was 417,10 ppm in May 2020. The purity of the air was not affected even by the fact that during the year of the coronavirus pandemic, most industrial giants of the world reduced their production. Thus, carbon emissions into the atmosphere have also been reduced.

"Perhaps emissions have been decreasing. But human activity still provokes the release of a large amount of carbon dioxide. Therefore, its atmospheric concentration will definitely increase," Martin Siegert, professor at Imperial College London, comments on the situation.

Further forecasts are also not optimistic. To contain the increase in temperature, it is necessary to completely stop emissions into the atmosphere as early as 2050. This is because it took only 30 years to reach 50% above pre-industrial carbon emissions.
