Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

When did the first Negro appear in America?

You've probably heard it said that the only real Americans are the Indians. All the rest have ancestors who came here from other countries. Negroes also came here from other countries. But most people are unaware that the first blacks in America appeared as pioneers! They appeared with the Spaniards, French and Portuguese who came here as travelers or explorers.

There were Negroes with Balboa when he discovered the Pacific Ocean, and with Cortes when he conquered Mexico. Negroes traveled with the Spaniards, French and Portuguese deep into North America, reached New Mexico, Arizona and the Mississippi Valley. It was the Negroes who initiated the cultivation of wheat in the New World.

Of course, later the Negroes came to the New World in a different capacity - as slaves. In 1619, a Dutch ship brought 20 Negroes to Jamestown in Virginia, which the captain sold to pay for the provisions he needed. At that time, many whites were coming to America to work there as "indentured" slaves.

It meant that they sell their labor for a while. But when whites stopped coming from Europe, then blacks began to be imported. It began in 1688, and by 1715 there were over 58 black slaves here. In 1775 this number increased to 500. In 1807, at the request of President Thomas Jefferson, Congress voted that no more slaves be brought into the country. Yet the slave trade continued despite the law. By 1860, before the Civil War, there were approximately 4 Negroes in the United States.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Scientific companies of Russia 21.07.2013

The first scientific companies were selected from students of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Moscow Aviation Institute, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and other technical universities and sent to their duty station, Boris Padalkin, the first vice-rector of the university, said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Padalkin explained that two scientific companies are now deployed - one in Voronezh, the other in the Moscow region. "To date, the guys have been selected for service in scientific companies. They have already been sent to the place of service," he said.

Now we are talking about several dozen people, the need for such specialists is great, so the number of such companies will increase, the Vice-Rector emphasized. On the weekend, the guys will have the opportunity to go home, said Padalkin. At the same time, he explained that not only students of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University work in the companies, but also representatives of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Moscow Aviation Institute, and other universities.

The idea of creating scientific companies in the army was expressed at a meeting of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu with rectors of universities at the Moscow State Technical University. Bauman March 12. The proposal of the university community, favorably received by the Russian defense department, involves the involvement of students to carry out scientific work commissioned by the defense department, which will be counted as young students as military service.

"One of the advantages of "smart mouths" is that we will now create conditions for a person who has served while studying at a university, so that we are guaranteed to place him in enterprises of the military-industrial complex for research and development and development work," he said. Viktor Ozerov, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security.

RIA Novosti columnist Konstantin Bogdanov: "It's not just that the "million" army lacks people, and it barely reaches 800 thousand.
