Did you know?

What revolves around what: the Earth around the Moon or vice versa?

Both. They revolve around each other.

The orbits of two celestial bodies have one common center of mass, located about 1600 km deep from the Earth's surface, so that the Earth makes three different rotations: around its own axis, around the Sun and around this point.

Confused? Dont be upset. Even Newton himself said that thinking about the movement of the moon made his head swell.

How did a chicken from England cause panic about the imminent end of the world?

In 1806, a hen from the English city of Leeds began to lay eggs, on which was the inscription "Jesus is coming" ("The second coming of Christ is coming"). The news of this quickly spread around the district, forcing people to believe in the imminent end of the world. Later it turned out that the owner of the chicken decided to play a prank on the people by etching this inscription on the eggs with acid and thrusting them back into the oviduct.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Garlic makes men more attractive 26.11.2015

Men who are unlucky in romantic affairs should probably eat more garlic, according to researchers from the University of Stirling and Charles University in Prague. The experiment involved 42 men and 82 women: the men were offered either garlic with bread and cheese or garlic extract capsules (of course, the control group did not eat either), after which they took scent samples and let the women smell them, who they had to say later how pleasant this or that smell is to them and how attractive and courageous its owner seems to them.

Garlic gave an unexpectedly positive effect - after eating it, men became more "interesting". True, it was necessary to eat quite a lot of it: male attractiveness increased only after 12 g of garlic (which corresponded to about four cloves). The result was the same for both natural garlic and extract capsules, so it's really the garlic itself, not the bread and cheese with which it was eaten.

Apparently, the same mechanisms are involved here that help animals evaluate a potential marriage partner by smell. To leave healthy offspring and to successfully raise it, both parents must also be healthy, resistant to infections, etc. And in garlic there are bactericidal molecules, and antioxidants, and substances that reduce the likelihood of cardiovascular disease, and much more. another (although it should be noted that so far not all the beneficial properties of garlic have been proven in medical research). The one who eats garlic seems to be healthier, and therefore more suitable for becoming a father.

Someone will say that humans do not have such a good sense of smell to, like other mammals, read such information by smell. However, smells can influence our behavior even when we are not aware of it. The most famous example of this kind is the so-called "smelling T-shirt experiment": in 1994, the Swiss biologist Klaus Wedekind found that women, by body odor, choose those men who have the right immunity, those who would help develop a more perfect immune system in children. .

There are other studies that indicate that body odor can contain not only information about our immunity and state of health, but also traces of emotions; it is known, for example, that negative experiences, such as fear or disgust, definitely leave their odor trace in the composition of sweat, which can be read by another person. So women may well smell healthy garlic lovers. True, an important clarification should be made here - we are talking specifically about the smell of the body, and not about the smell from the mouth, which after four teeth will be such that even if you are a prince on a horse, hardly anyone will feel sympathy for you.
