BIG ENCYCLOPEDIA FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS
Why hasn't a cure for cancer been found yet? Detailed answer Directory / Big encyclopedia. Questions for quiz and self-education Did you know? Why hasn't a cure for cancer been found yet? First, what is cancer? The basis of this disease is the abnormal division of body cells. The "wrong" cells continue to divide further and form larger and larger masses of body tissues. So, cancer is an uncontrolled growth (spread) of body cells. Cancer can appear in any type of cell. Since there are different types of cells, there are different types of cancer. Hundreds of different types of cancerous tumors can form in the human body. It turns out that cancer is not one disease, but a whole family of diseases. And therein lies one of the problems associated with finding a cure for cancer. One approach to solving this problem is to find out the factors that contribute to the development of cancer. Scientists also need to know how these factors cause normal cells to become cancerous. By finding out this issue, they hope to find ways to prevent this disease. Another area of research is the development of drugs capable of destroying cancer cells already in the body in the same way that modern antibiotics destroy bacterial cells. Scientists have discovered many factors that contribute to cancer, such as certain chemicals. Governments around the world have taken steps to eliminate the possibility of such chemicals being ingested by humans and generally to reduce all contact with them to a minimum. Such measures really help prevent cancer. Since there is a close relationship between cancer cells and viruses found in some animals, more and more scientists are coming to the conclusion that many types of cancer are caused by viruses. But how the virus contributes to the appearance of cancer cells in the human body - this question has not yet been answered. The search for the causes of cancer is very difficult, but significant progress is being made in this area. It is possible that in the end it will be found that different forms of cancer have little in common with each other. Or, on the contrary, it will turn out that the action of different pathogens of this disease is basically the same. But at this stage, we don't know all that yet. Author: Likum A.
