5.5.9. Service passages between foundations or cases of electrical machines, between electrical machines and parts of a building or equipment in machine rooms, except for rooms for light-duty (up to 160 kg) lifts, must be at least 1 m wide in the clear. Local narrowing of passages between protruding parts of machines and building structures up to 0,6 m is allowed.

It is allowed to reduce the width of the aisle for maintenance of electrical machines to 0,5 m on both sides; from the sides of the machine that do not require maintenance, the distance is not regulated.

5.5.10. In machinery spaces, service passages must meet the following requirements:

1. The width (clear) of the maintenance aisle from the front and rear sides of the control panel must be at least 0,75 m. With a control panel width of not more than 1 m and access to the panel from both sides, the distance from the protruding parts of the rear side of the panel to the wall the machine room may be reduced to 0,2 m, and with a panel width of more than 1 m or access to the panel from one side - up to 0,5 m.

The control panel, in which the installation and dismantling of electrical devices and the connection of wires to them, is carried out only from the front side, it is allowed to install close to the wall of the machine room, as well as in niches with a depth of not more than the thickness of the panel, together with control equipment.

2. The distance from unshielded non-insulated live parts located at a height of less than 2 m on one side of the passage to the wall and equipment with insulated or shielded live parts located on the other side of the passage must be at least 0,75 m.

3. The distance between unshielded current-carrying parts located at a height of less than 2 m on different sides of the passage must be at least 1,2 m.

5.5.11. On the control panel of each elevator, a device must be installed that turns off the primary circuit and the control circuit. In the machine room, directly at the entrance, an introductory device must be installed to relieve voltage from the entire elevator installation.

5.5.12. In the engine room at the entrance, it is necessary to provide a free passage with a width of at least 1 m.

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Controlling objects using air currents 04.05.2024

The development of robotics continues to open up new prospects for us in the field of automation and control of various objects. Recently, Finnish scientists presented an innovative approach to controlling humanoid robots using air currents. This method promises to revolutionize the way objects are manipulated and open new horizons in the field of robotics. The idea of controlling objects using air currents is not new, but until recently, implementing such concepts remained a challenge. Finnish researchers have developed an innovative method that allows robots to manipulate objects using special air jets as "air fingers". The air flow control algorithm, developed by a team of specialists, is based on a thorough study of the movement of objects in the air flow. The air jet control system, carried out using special motors, allows you to direct objects without resorting to physical ... >>

Purebred dogs get sick no more often than purebred dogs 03.05.2024

Caring for the health of our pets is an important aspect of the life of every dog owner. However, there is a common assumption that purebred dogs are more susceptible to diseases compared to mixed dogs. New research led by researchers at the Texas School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences brings new perspective to this question. A study conducted by the Dog Aging Project (DAP) of more than 27 companion dogs found that purebred and mixed dogs were generally equally likely to experience various diseases. Although some breeds may be more susceptible to certain diseases, the overall diagnosis rate is virtually the same between both groups. The Dog Aging Project's chief veterinarian, Dr. Keith Creevy, notes that there are several well-known diseases that are more common in certain breeds of dogs, which supports the notion that purebred dogs are more susceptible to disease. ... >>

A person will be calculated by radio waves 14.07.2012

The US Navy and Boeing are going to use passive millimeter wave imaging technology for people detection and perimeter security. US Army Research Center NAWCWD has awarded Boeing $3,5 million to develop a PMMWIS sensor that can detect and identify a moving person from the human body's radio emission.

Passive millimeter wave imaging technology is used on some examples of airport security scanners. A scanner installed at an airport checkpoint receives high-frequency radio waves emitted by the human body and various objects. In this way, the presence of weapons or explosives hidden on the body can be detected. Also, this technology is used on aircraft - to detect dangerous objects in conditions of poor visibility, for example, wires and pylons of power lines.

Boeing engineers will develop PMMWIS sensors that can be installed over a large area around and inside a protected facility. The new system will operate day and night, during fog, smoke, dust storms, rain, etc. Thus, a passive (that is, not emitting radio waves) surveillance system will be able to provide control over the situation around a military base, ship, field camp at any time of the day and in any weather. Today, such capabilities are provided only by a combination of several surveillance systems: thermal imagers, radars, acoustic and seismic sensors.

In addition, PMMWIS will be able to detect and distinguish a human from a robot, as well as determine whether a potential infiltrator is armed. At least similar sensors at airports can distinguish rubber from metal, wood from explosives, and so on.
