What is a promotion?

Shares or bonds are securities that commercial companies sell to the public to raise money. To open a new company, to purchase new equipment for an existing company, a large amount of money is required. To raise that money, the company sells thousands, sometimes millions, of shares. When a person buys a share, he becomes one of the owners of the company. As an owner, a shareholder, he hopes to receive dividends, or a portion of the company's profits. The size of the dividend may vary from year to year, depending on the type of activity that the company was engaged in in a given year.

There are two types of shares: ordinary shares and preferential shares. The owner of an ordinary share has the right to attend an annual meeting of shareholders, to vote in the election of directors of the company.

Preferential share is so called because its owner has certain rights that the owner of ordinary shares does not have. When dividends are paid, the owners of preferential shares have the advantage. Dividends on preferential shares are paid in predetermined amounts. While dividends on ordinary shares are paid simply depending on how the company was doing for a certain time. If the company breaks up or goes out of business, the money is paid first to the holders of preferential shares, and then ordinary ones.

When a person buys a share or bond, he buys them from another investor. When he sells them, he sells them to another investor as well. The market where shares are bought and sold is called an exchange. Shares are bought and sold through brokers. His duty is to buy and sell shares of investors. The share price can rise or fall for many reasons related to partner companies, commercial terms of transactions, and so on.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What is silicon?

The Earth's crust - the soil that people walk on and live on - is made up to a large extent of silicon. Silicon is the second most abundant chemical element on Earth, but it is never found in its free state. This means that it is always connected to one or more other elements.

Silicon is the main element in all rocks, with the exception of one variety - carbonates. Clay, for example, contains an average of 50 percent silicon, and you can be sure that most of the stones you see have the same amount of silicon.

Silicon has been found on stars and even in plants. The largest amount of silicon in the world is found in silica, which is made up of oxygen and silicon. Quartz, jasper, opal, sand are all varieties of silica. In ancient times, people used silica to make glass. Silicon exists in two forms: crystalline and powdered.

Pure silicon is not widely used, so it is rarely produced. But various silicon compounds are used in many industries. When sand is combined with coke, silicon carbide is formed, which is usually called carborundum. It is an extremely hard substance and is used for grinding and polishing metals.

Silicon is also added to steel because it gives steel many useful qualities. Steel can contain from 2 to 6% silicon. When steel is used in the manufacture of chemical equipment, it contains 6% silicon, which makes it much more resistant to corrosion than any other steel. When steel contains 2% silicon, it becomes indispensable for electrical equipment, since in this case less energy is required to magnetize the steel.

Silicon compounds are also widely used in the chemical industry for a variety of needs.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

There are more microbes in a man's beard than in dog hair 19.04.2019

A man's beard is a receptacle for a huge number of microbes, including potentially dangerous ones. There are more of them in it than in the coat of dogs that are taken out for a walk on the street.

It all started when researchers at the Hirslanden Medical Center in Switzerland decided to find out how clean MRI scanners are in regular hospitals. This interest was not accidental. PMRI equipment is periodically used to examine animals, since veterinary clinics do not have their own scanners for various reasons.

It turned out that the devices that were sometimes used to examine dogs were cleaner than those used only for procedures with people.

After that, experts took swabs from the face of 18 men and from the neck of 30 dogs of different breeds, then comparing the microbial composition of the samples. As a result, they stated: in humans, bacterial "pollution" is more significant than in animals.

According to the lead author of the project, Professor Andreas Guzeit, out of 30 domestic dogs that are regularly taken outside, microbes were found in 23 in small quantities. In turn, among the bearded men aged 18 to 76 participating in the study, a high the level of microbes in the hairline was recorded in absolutely everyone. As for potentially dangerous microorganisms, they were found in 7 out of 18 men (38%) and in 4 out of 30 dogs (13%).
