What is athlete's foot?

This condition is sometimes referred to as athlete's foot. But you don't have to be an athlete to get it. This is mainly a fungal infection of the foot, and most people can get it, although there are people who are especially susceptible to fungal infections. The name of this disease owes its appearance to the fact that it is common among athletes who have to use a shared shower.

There are two main types of epidermophytosis. In a more common form, a crack appears in the skin, usually at the base of the fifth toe or between the fourth and fifth toes. A patch of dead skin also appears between the fingers. If this patch is removed, red, shiny skin remains in this place. The next type of this disease begins with reddening of the skin between the fingers, which then thickens and begins to peel off. Both types of disease are able to spread over the entire surface of the sole. The disease can affect both feet, although usually one foot is more affected than the other.

There are several other diseases that can have the same effects. Anyone who decides to be treated for epidermophytosis must be sure that he has this particular disease. Therefore, it is much safer to consult a doctor before starting self-medication. Epidermophytosis is caused by three types of fungi. They are almost constantly present on the skin, so the infection can be obtained at any time. But when the skin heats up and stays moist for a long time, the fungus gets into the dead outer layers of the skin and starts to grow.

As fungi grow, they produce certain substances on the skin, and if a person does not have allergic reactions and is not sensitive to these substances, then the fungi may not bother him at all. Some simple cases of this disease do not require any treatment at all, and the symptoms of the disease disappear as soon as the weather becomes cooler. But in more serious cases, the foot must be constantly kept dry, socks must be changed frequently and certain ointments must be used.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What are psychic phenomena?

Sometimes things happen to people that are out of the ordinary. This does not mean that these phenomena are supernatural. Science just can't explain them yet. They are called psychic phenomena. There are many varieties of such phenomena, and people study them with great interest. Many people believe in them, others don't.

Let's look at some of these phenomena. One of them is called "poltergeist". It is associated with strange sounds, the movement of furniture, breaking dishes and other strange incidents that people who are at that moment in the apartment cannot explain in any way. But for this to happen, the presence of a certain person is almost always necessary.

Even more interesting are the phenomena associated with the extraordinary abilities of the psyche of some people. In such cases, a person has knowledge about what he could not know in any natural way. For example, he can read the thoughts of another person or learn about an event that happened somewhere far away or a very long time ago.

Reading the thoughts of another person (not a guess, but reading) is called telepathy.

Knowledge about some distant and long-standing incidents is called clairvoyance. A lot of research has been done to prove the existence or demonstrate cases of telepathy, but many scientists claim that these experiments were done incorrectly. Another interesting psychic phenomenon is called prediction. This is when people seem to know about events that should happen in the future. People who do not believe in predictions may ask why these people do not get rich on the stock exchange or do not prevent crime.

In general, there is a twofold attitude towards psychic phenomena: some unconditionally believe in them, and others - among them there are many scientists - do not believe in them and believe that such a thing cannot take place and therefore does not happen.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Milk in A4 format 04.08.2023

German food manufacturer Veganz has unveiled a unique development, Mililk technology, which includes 2D printed sheets that turn into oat milk.

The product is a square sheet of sweet shade, A4 size, which makes it convenient to send them through mailboxes. Each leaf is capable of producing 500 ml of delicious oat milk, and the €17,99 package includes enough sheets to make 10 liters of milk.

It is enough for the consumer to tear off the required number of sheets and mix them with water for one and a half minutes to get fresh oat milk.

Mililk leaves include oat powder, some water, coconut oil, chickpea isolate, vanillin, and gellan gum.

The manufacturer emphasizes that the production of milk in sheet format has a low ecological impact on the environment, as it avoids a large amount of waste. In addition, the consumer can prepare exactly as much milk as he needs at a certain point in time.

This format of oat milk is highly convenient for transportation, since water makes up 90% of the product. The Mililk packaging only includes a recyclable envelope, unlike the many Tetra Pak (common plant-based milk packaging) or cartons that are simply thrown away.
