How did cooking start?

Why can you eat fruits and many vegetables raw but still have to cook meat and fish? For most of us, of course, cooked meat and fish simply taste better than raw.

But there is another, even more important reason: when we do not cook certain types of meat and fish enough, the organisms living in fish and animals can enter our body and cause illness. One of the most famous examples of this is "trichinosis," a disease that a person can get if they eat undercooked, much less raw pork or pork products. Tapeworm and other parasitic infections can be caught by eating undercooked certain varieties of fish.

Of course, primitive man had no choice: he had to eat raw food, because he did not have the opportunity to cook it. When a man finally found a way to make fire, he began to use it to heat and scare away wild animals. Probably, a person discovered a method of cooking by accident. It is possible that some of the animals he killed were abandoned near the hot coals. The man saw that the meat had darkened and felt that it smelled good. He tried it and realized that he likes it more than raw. Since then, he could switch to fried foods.

There were no dishes then, so the primitive man cooked on hot stones around an open fire. The first oven was a stone-lined ember pit. He soon began building a cooking stove above the ground, with a smoke hole, a draft, and a stone covering the inlet to keep it hot.

The man learned how to cook food in a pit covered with a large skin. It was filled with water and heated to a boil with red-hot stones. And, finally, man learned to make the first primitive bowlers. To do this, it was necessary to coat the reed basket with clay and let it harden. In these pots on fire, with and without water, it was possible to cook food.

So primitive man invented two ways of cooking: baking, or frying in a dry heat, and boiling, or steaming.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Rearview Mirror with Android 20.01.2014

Pioneer, a Japanese auto electronics manufacturer, and Robin Labs, which develops a voice assistance system based on Yahoo! services, demonstrated a "smart" rear-view mirror. One of the features of the novelty is that the device has a pre-installed Android operating system. The demonstration of the device, which was called Drive Agent Mirror, took place during the CES 2014 exhibition, held in January this year in Las Vegas.

The device is somewhat longer and wider than a conventional car interior mirror. On its left side is a small touch screen that merges with the remaining mirror part when turned off and can be used to view the road behind the car.

At the same time, in the active mode, Drive Agent Mirror can act as an infotainment system, navigator and voice-controlled digital assistant. On the basis of voice commands, the calculation of the time for movement within the laid route, the formation of the most optimal path, taking into account road conditions, etc., are performed. Speech recognition is carried out using Robin Labs technology. According to unconfirmed information, this company is developing a Siri competitor for Yahoo!

Pioneer believes that because drivers are constantly looking in the rear-view mirror to monitor the traffic behind the car, navigation and entertainment functions in the interior mirror are much more convenient than, for example, on the head unit located on the center console. The developers believe that Drive Agent Mirror distracts the driver from driving to a lesser extent.

So far, only a prototype of a saloon mirror with Android OS has been demonstrated. When the device will appear in free sale, and how much it will cost, is not reported.

It is worth noting that several automakers have already thought about using the Android OS in auto electronics. As previously reported in the media, Kia Soul and Hyundai Genesis cars by the end of 2013 should receive multimedia systems running Google's mobile OS. Google Corporation recently announced the creation of the "Open Automobile Alliance", which will integrate mobile technologies based on Android into automotive systems. The alliance included Honda Motor, Audi, Hyundai Motor, General Motors, and GPU maker Nvidia.
