Where did the dolls originate?

The answer to this question is very simple: everywhere. The doll is one of the very first human companions. It can be found in both primitive and civilized peoples. It is known that dolls were in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece and Rome.

It is possible that the first dolls were invented not by adults, but by children and made from natural things, such as stones and sticks. But for most people, dolls were more than just toys.

For example, among the American Indians, the baby doll was the image of a deity, an idol. It was made of wood and was, as it were, part of the religious education of children.

In Japan, a primitive children's doll was made, for example, from a planed willow branch, on which paper clothes were put on. There was also a doll that we would call a "scapegoat". She was "fed", clothed, treated as though she were alive, and given to mothers to turn the devil away from their children. But, in addition to such "magic" dolls, Japanese girls also had ordinary ones to play with.

Islam forbids portraying a person. But, despite this, beautifully dressed dolls are often given to a girl who is getting married, since the bride in Islamic countries is often very young. Mothers are usually reluctant to give dolls to their young daughters, as they are afraid that the spirit of the devil in the doll might harm the child. But many girls make their own dolls from pieces of wood.

Dolls are common in Africa, but sometimes they are used for ritual, magical purposes, and not as toys. In Europe, also in early times, dolls were often associated with religious rites, images of saints, and some with the Christmas holiday.

In the Protestant countries of Europe, long before the Catholic dolls were just toys.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

X-ray for communication in space 06.04.2019

NASA has announced it is testing a new XCOM communication system based on X-rays. This will allow scientists to transmit gigabytes of information per second over long distances in space.

The International Space Station (ISS) plans to install a new XCOM communication system that will use X-rays. In this regard, NASA engineer Goddard Jason Mitchell said that they had been waiting for this for quite a long time to demonstrate this possibility.

Now scientists use radio to communicate with spacecraft, but it has limited capabilities. Short wavelength X-rays should allow more information to be transmitted than radio waves using the same amount of energy.

Radio communication also becomes unavailable under certain conditions, for example, when a spacecraft enters the dense layers of the Earth's atmosphere and thermal energy becomes a barrier to communication. In such cases, communication with the astronauts or the apparatus may be lost for several minutes.

The XCOM system can solve this problem and overcome the plasma shield of an aircraft or capsule that descends in the atmosphere. True, the technology is not yet considered for use on the surface of the Earth, since it can be dangerous due to radioactive X-rays and a large amount of energy in its waves.

NASA is due to begin the first XCOM tests at the end of April 2019 when they launch the modulated MXS X-ray source to the ISS. The device will be controlled through the NavCube GPS receiver, which was sent to the ISS last year.

In the future, the system should transmit information much faster to probes in remote places in the solar system or even beyond.
