Who first started chewing gum?

Why do people chew? This helps them relax. Today we often use this tool. But even before chewing gum was invented, people wanted to chew something to relax. Therefore, in different countries, people chewed resin and even leaves and grass.

Chewing gum is made from natural rubber and other elastic materials. People have been chewing rubber for hundreds of years! The Maya and other Central Americans chewed rubber for millennia, long before the first white people arrived.

Indians in New England chewed spruce resin, and the American colonizers adopted this habit from them. In the early XNUMXth century, the first chewing gum sold in the United States was made from spruce resin.

In the 60s of the XIX century, rubber began to be used as the basis for chewing gum. It was comfortable to chew and could hold odors. As a result, the popularity of gum has increased greatly.

Today, chewing gum is 20% elastic base, 19% corn syrup, 60% sugar and 1% flavoring. To make it more elastic, up to 25% milky juice or other similar substances are added to the mixture. These products are obtained from wild trees that grow in tropical forests. An incision is made on the tree, and the milky juice flows into containers. The juice is collected, boiled and shaped into cubes.

To make chewing gum, the main ingredients are washed, ground, sterilized and mixed. In mixing pots, corn syrup, sugar, and flavorings are added to the melted base. Then the finished mixture is rolled out and cut into plates or cubes. The essential oil, which is obtained from peppermint and spearmint, is the main flavor. One piece of chewing gum contains up to 9 calories.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Kilometer solar power plant above the factory conveyor belt 26.04.2023

Sinn Power, a German startup specializing in floating photovoltaics, and French solar module manufacturer Recom have deployed a 1km solar array on a conveyor belt at a gravel plant in Bavaria, Germany.

Recom supplied 1760 double-sided heterojunction modules for the project, each with an output power of 470 watts. The array has a total power of 850 kW and generates 877 watts per m2.

Sinn Power designed and provided the aluminum mounting structure for the project. The aluminum structure can be used with conveyor belts up to 2,5 m high and rests on concrete bases. Each mounting structure is 5,5 m long and can accommodate up to 10 solar modules. It has a wind load of 27,5 m/s (99 km/h) (WLZ3) and a snow load of 2,06 kN/m2. The mounting structure can be attached to an existing conveyor belt structure using a clamping system.

Recom stated that the conveyor belt photovoltaic system is designed in accordance with Eurocode 1DIN1991-1-3 and Eurocode DIN1991-1, and that the structural stability of the system is verified using Finite Element Method (FEM) simulation and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis.

The companies say this innovative solution maximizes profitability by directly supplying power to the conveyor belt where it is needed without sacrificing performance. The aluminum construction is durable and can withstand the environment while being easy to transport and install.
