What is anemia?

Anemia is a word that refers to various conditions associated with blood disorders. These conditions can occur when the amount of red blood cells in the blood is abnormal or when the cells themselves do not contain enough hemoglobin.

Anemia can be caused by abnormalities in the formation of blood, destruction of cells, or a large loss of blood. And these phenomena, in turn, can be caused by various disorders of the body. Therefore, when a doctor treats anemia, he must know exactly what kind of this disease he is dealing with. One type of anemia can be caused, for example, by a wound that has led to a large loss of blood. Other fluids from the body enter the bloodstream, the blood thins, which can result in anemia.

Another type of anemia is associated with increased destruction of red blood cells, which can be the result of various conditions in the body. In some cases, it can be inherited, the result of an inappropriate type of blood infusion, severe burns, allergies, or leukemia. One of the most well-known types of anemia is trophic anemia. This is the most common and least dangerous type of anemia and is caused by a lack of iron to form red blood cells. Iron is needed by the body to produce hemoglobin.

Much of the food we eat contains small amounts of iron. But many people cannot, for health reasons, eat foods high in iron, such as meat, eggs, and certain types of vegetables. Therefore, the lack of iron in the blood is not so rare.

Symptoms of anemia of this kind are pallor, weakness, fatigue, fainting, and shortness of breath. If the patient has the opportunity to have a good rest and get good nutrition, then he usually manages to recover quite quickly.

Which village covers almost 10 million square meters. km?

When one of the first explorers of North America asked the local Indians for directions to the settlement, they showed them the direction, saying: "Canada", which simply means "village". A little later, researchers began to use the word Canada to refer to an area that included several more villages around, then an even larger region and all the banks of the St. Lawrence River. And in 1867, Canada was the name of the entire country formed by the union of British possessions in North America.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Canned Coconuts 12.01.2001

An unripe coconut contains about half a liter of a clear, cool, sour-sweet liquid that quenches thirst well and contains a large amount of vitamins, potassium and sugar.

This is the so-called coconut water, which later, as the nut ripens, is saturated with droplets of fat and turns into coconut milk. At the same time, the drink loses some of its usefulness, because coconut palm oil is rich in saturated fatty acids and contributes to atherosclerosis.

Coconut water is one of the favorite drinks in those countries where the coconut tree grows. It could be in great demand outside the tropics, but it cannot be stored for a long time. Coconut water does not lend itself to pasteurization, it coagulates when heated, so it cannot be bottled and sold away from the tropics. Specialists from FAO - the United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food Resources - have developed and patented a method for sterilizing coconut water that does not involve heating.

The drink is filtered through microporous filters that trap microbes and their spores. On the island of Dominica in the Caribbean, a pilot plant has already opened, producing coconut water in plastic bottles. Customer reviews are the most positive.
