Why was the great Hercules forced to obey the insignificant Eurystheus?

The culprit of this absurdity was Ata - the eldest daughter of Zeus, whose mother was the goddess of discord Eris. Ata was also a goddess - she personified instant madness, clouding the mind and bringing misfortune to a person (or misfortune itself, caused by clouding of the mind).

While waiting for the birth of Hercules at Alcmene, Zeus, whose mind was darkened by Ata, boasted that the born mortal would rule the noble family of Perseus. Hearing these words, Hera demanded a promise from Zeus that the one who was born in the family of Perseus before dark would become the supreme king. When Zeus gave this unbreakable oath, Hera immediately went to Mycenae and hastened the birth of Nikippa, the wife of King Sthenelus. Then she hurried to Thebes and squatted at the door of Alcmene, with her clothes tied in knots, her legs crossed, and her hands tightly clasped. So she delayed the birth of Hercules until the seven-month-old son of Sthenelus lay down in the cradle.

According to another version, Hera entrusted the task of changing the birth date of Nicippa and Alcmene to her daughter Ilithyia, the goddess of childbirth. One way or another, but the great Hercules, who was born an hour later, turned out to be dependent on the insignificant Eurystheus. Upon learning of this, Zeus went into an indescribable rage. Grabbing Ata, because of which he fell for the trick of Hera, he swore that he would never allow her to Olympus, and then threw her to the ground. Since then, Ata has lived among people, bringing them a lot of grief and disaster.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

How many crocuses do you need to collect to get a kilogram of saffron?

From 85 to 000. That is why even today the retail price of a pound of high-quality Spanish saffron "mancha" is three thousand seven hundred and fifty (140) pounds sterling.

On the island of Crete, on the remains of the frescoes of the ancient Minoan palaces (1600 BC), you can see the image of the collection of saffron. Alexander the Great washed his hair with saffron to give it a pleasant orange sheen. Shampoo, I must say, is not cheap: in those days, saffron was reputed to be as rare as diamonds, and cost more than gold.

In medieval Nuremberg, as well as during the reign of Henry VIII in England, "debossing" saffron by mixing with something else was punishable by death. The guilty were burned at the stake or buried alive along with their criminal goods.

The town of Saffron-Walden, located in Essex, near Cambridge, got its name from the precious spice (in English saffron - saffron.): Once there was the center of the English saffron trade. The legend says that it all started with a stolen saffron seed bulb, which a pilgrim from the Middle East brought here in the XNUMXth century, hiding a wanderer in his staff. Until then, the town was called just one word - Walden.

Only the introduction of such products as tea, coffee, chocolate and vanilla gradually led to a decline in the cultivation of crocuses, although in Italy, France and Spain saffron remained the most important agricultural crop for quite a long time.

The word "saffron" comes from the Arabic asfar, which means "yellow".

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The most annoying sound to the human ear 24.07.2020

NASA experts have found out which sound is most capable of annoying a person. The conclusions were preceded by a series of experiments. Scientists recorded the hum of cars and the noise of a flying drone, and had 38 volunteers listen to them.

The researchers note that the study participants never had hearing problems. Volunteers had to rate how much these noises are capable of irritating them.
